Re: 2019 Best OTC Spray Wax/Sealant

Much as I like UQW on plastic trim, I don`t care for it on my paints (preferring OCW for a Spray Wax), and I experienced zero filling ability.

TW Ice Spray Wax is nice. AQ I like more than UQW. BSD is obviously a beast.

The new Turtle Wax Ice Seal n Shine is surprisingly nice. It`s a carnauba/ceramic hybrid.

Agreed, I just got a bottle recently and was very pleasantly surprised. While the regular ICE Spray wax seems to clean a bit, like a QD, this Seal and Shine seems to be a deidcated sealant.

Does Meg`s new Hybrid Ceramic Wax spray fit into this category??
We seem to have four types of detailing exterior spray categories:
    1) Quick detailing sprays (they seem to be car wash (2 bucket or rinse-less) drying aids)
    2) Spray waxes (gloss enhancers with hydrophobic (water-beading) properties)
    3) Coating maintenance sprays (gloss enhancers while extending the protective durability/life expectancy of the coating)
    4) Stand-alone spray LSP (wax-on-walk-away (WOWA) or some wax-on-wax-off (WOWO) that offer both protection and long-term durability (i.e, more than one month))

By the way, an excellent parallel thread started by acuRAS82 on defining and categorizing coating sprays is:

Thanks Lonnie! I’ve always admired you on these threads, and enjoy reading your opinions.

i think Meg’s HCW is like Hydro2 and Mckees HydroBlue (and others) with the caveat that it’s actually recommended to wipe on / wipe off or walk away for the first application (type 3 and 4 above?), but after that it’s meant for spray on /rinse off application (type 3 above, which seems like it can include traditional coating maintenance sprays OR these spray /rinse products.

I dont claim to be the all-knowing spray organizer, the above is just my opinion, YOMV.

Pinnacle spray wax - one of the best looks I`ve had from a spray, but watery and pricey.
Polish Angel Presto - gobs of carnauba glow and lasting protection, but too costly. Mary hates it, so YMMV.
UQW - price leader in concentrate, looks fantastic and has minor filling ability, but just doesn`t last (for me). Great on interior plastic bits.
Are we losing focus on the "OTC" part, or am I not shopping at the right retail stores? <This is typed with a friendly smile, not trying to sound negative in any way>

Dude, guilty as charged! Sorry. If I could get PA "at the store", I`d be in bad shape.

Re: 2019 Best OTC Spray Wax/Sealant

Turtle Wax Seal N Shine could be very promising. Not only hydrophobic but has an oleophobic tendency as well I assume, it resists a lot of chemical dumping compared to other products in the short term as a result. You know those products where when you soap them down, they really resist the surfactants from the soap and starts to bead all of it up fairly quickly, this is one of them. They listed "super-hydrophobic" on the bottle which amped me up because superhydrophobicity is a measurable concept at 150°+ contact angle beading, but it`s not anywhere near that level (nothing is anywhere near that level in the detailing industry). Tested Zep Heavy Duty Citrus Cleaner at 4:1 water to Zep dilution, very resistant, and also resistant to Super Clean Aerosol formula, wiping in dry with microfiber towels with both cleaners. It`s more impacted by Super Clean but holds up much better than many I`ve tested it against so far. Will be working with this much more coming up.

My vote goes to Meg`s HCW, it`s an easy choice at around $13 at Walmart right now.

With Matts video at Mequiars it showed how Mequiars OTC products do a great job for this driveway detailer
