Re: New Mothers CMX CERAMIC SPRAY COATING

I applied some CMX to my work van in 40 degree weather. Seems to work fine in cold weather. The next day it rained and had nice tight beads.

Received CMX via Amazon today. I`m anxious to try it.

Wheels have always been a pain to keep clean. Has anyone tried CMX on wheels??

    Thanks...

Re: New Mothers CMX CERAMIC SPRAY COATING

Got a bottle a few days ago, just tried it out on a panel on my ML. It`s not as easy to work with as a spray wax, my paint seemed to soak up a good bit of the stuff actually. Its a bit grabby when you smear it all around. Initial looks are rather ho-hum, but it really comes around as it cures. Has that nice glassy look like a coating or FK1000P.

I gather products like CMX are supposed to be better than conventional LSPs like FK1000P, right? I mean..besides the different application.

Mothers is claiming it lasts a long time. I just wonder if I can do 20+ layers for that dipped in clear candy apple look?

CMX is easier to use than a wax or sealant. Wipe on buff off. I’m not convinced CMX is better than FK1000p, but it may be equal for protection. I’ve yet to do two coats of CMX to see if that might offer more/longer protection, but then you are no longer saving time and effort. Try some CMX over FK1000p.

I just don`t see a coating sticking well to a wax even if it`s synthetic. Regardless, I think best results would be on bare paint.

Mothers recommends this. And being a coating, you would expect it.

I’m not going to call CMX a coating or coating lite. I used CMX on bare paint and was disappointed (durability) after less than a month (still good for a topper). It would (probably) be best used over a true coating. Try it over FK1000p and see if it bonds. I haven’t heard of anyone trying CMX over a sealant, I don’t know what would happen. Until it’s tried no one truly knows what is going to occur. The new Meguires ceramic product is used over waxes and sealants, different product I know but similar chemical makeup.

Anyone wants to give it a try, I`ve got a bottle I used to test on a hood, don`t imagine I`ll use it again so if you`re in the continental US and you wanna try it, lemme know and I`ll ship it to you, gratis, no-charge, free.

Re: New Mothers CMX CERAMIC SPRAY COATING

bodlily22- It might sound like I`m just stirring up [crap] but I`m serious about hearing what people familiar with both products experience.

wannafbody- I`d *assume* (uh-oh! ) that many things will bond to FK1000P despite it`s "Hi Temp WAX" name since the FK Pink Wax bonds to it and others have topped it with various things that worked. BUT....as you and Alfisti pointed out, that`s not what Mother`s recommends. IMO it remains to be seen whether that`s a (perfectly reasonable) CYA recommendation or a genuine caveat. I`m currently thinking along the same lines as rlmccarty2000, that nobody will really know until it`s tried.

    Thanks for the reply.

In my case (very subjective in the specific-to-me sense), the easier application is debatable (undoubtedly not true for many/most others).

I won`t be trying any topper over the FK as it`d preclude adding more...at least not until I believe I have a good (my definition) reason.

Now...if CMX does prove at least as good I`ll be all ears and might consider adjusting my routine to accommodate it. Hey, I resisted the FK for years too and I was sure wrong about that, so I`m keeping an open mind.

Re: New Mothers CMX CERAMIC SPRAY COATING

I think I need to revisit my purchasing workflow. Currently it seems to be:

"See shiny, new product, buy shiny new product, find vehicle to use it on"

Perhaps switch it up a bit to be:

"Find vehicle to use it on, buy appropriate product"

Not sure even that would help...
