    Optimum Gelcoat Restorer?

This product suddenly popped up on the OPT forum, I presume it`s a SEMA release but it`s for sale already in their store ($50 for a quart). Can`t help but wonder what it would do for failing clearcoat, I asked...we`ll see what they say.

Optimum Gelcoat Restorer (GCR) is engineered to return gelcoat to its factory finish without the need for polishing. GCR rebuilds the gelcoat keeping the original thickness and restoring the gloss. GCR will restore your gelcoat and protect it with it`s included UV protection.
    • Easy to use.
    • No polishing required.
    • Long term durability.
    • Easy to maintain.
    Directions:
    1. Remove loose oxidation using pure Optimum Power Clean and a brush or mild scuff pad.
    2. Rinse the surface and dry.
    3. Wearing gloves and eye protection, apply GCR to the surface in overlapping circular motions. If the gelcoat was heavily oxidized, the GCR will soak in. Do not over apply..
    4. Once dry to the touch (20-30 minutes), apply a second coat.
    5. Depending on the level of oxidation, up to 4 coats may be required.
    6. To maintain the restored surface, wash with Optimum No Rinse (ONR) and apply Optimum Car Wax regularly..

    Re: Optimum Gelcoat Restorer?

VERY interesting product thank you for posting. My boat lives the life of luxury being stored in a temperature controlled garage but I have friends that have there boats stored out side and they can take a beating quick, especially if they are a dark color. We do a lot fresh water bass tournaments and have the fancy flake gelcoat and its expensive as heck to have fixed.

    Re: Optimum Gelcoat Restorer?

I did ask on the OPT forum if this could be used for clearcoat failure, and they said no, this is for gelcoat, but that Dr. G is working on products for clearcoat.

Take that with a grain of salt because the forum rep isn`t a very technical guy. If any of you are going to SEMA stop by the OPT booth and ask them about this product, it`s use on clearcoat, and what Dr. G is working on for clearcoat.
