    Best black trim enhancer

I`m finally (after a few months of illness) back out in this currently hot humid North Carolina weather detailing our cars.

MY QUESTION: I have a 1991 read Buick Reatta Convertible which has a fair amount of black trim. Suggestions for a product which will make that trim "glow" and will last through some of the frequent popup storms we have A product which I can purchase at a local store like Auto Zone, NAPA, O`Reilley`s, would be convenient. As you can tell, this is my Reatta and has a fair amount of black trim.Appreciate any suggestions. I am a Zaino Zealot, but their Tire Gloss (Z-16) doesn`t give the really high gloss I am seeking even though the gloss lasts very well. Thanks, HRP

Do yourself a favor and get a trim coating. If you want just a dressing, Griot’s trim restorer lasts quite a while.

I recently checked on trim products since I have a piece under my front bumper that is beginning to annoy me. Two that I came up with that people seemed happy with are Renu Finish (about $20) and the other is Wipe New Trim Restorer (about $16). Both are (supposedly) permanent. Simply wipe on and that,s it. Have never used either. If anybody has or does, please let us know. Are available locally.

HRP- Welcome to Autopia! That`s one *NICE* Reatta you have there!

Much as I *love* Z16 for tires (snatched up all the old version I could find), I utterly DETEST using dressings (which I call "slime") on exterior trim; haven`t done it for decades and never will again. I honestly believe there are many superior approaches, but you may well have to order them.

EDIT: Hey, that`s not true! I forgot about the sidesteps of the Tahoe, maybe because they`re 95% metal with just four little plastic bits. I do use Autoglym Bumper Care on those (metal and plastic parts both) because they`re utterly trashed and nothing else makes them look decent. BUT most any other Autopian would pull `em off for refinishing, they really are *THAT* bad. When I said "never" I meant "on vehicles in decent condition, like that Reatta".

    That.

Or a Trim Sealant (I use Ultima`s Tire & Trim Guard Plus). Prep with Griot`s Rubber Prep first, that`s a [freakin`] miracle product that everybody oughta have on the shelf anyhow.

Some *really* compromised material might get me to rethink my "Never use Slime!" approach...just as I have to use it on the sidesteps of the Tahoe, where I use Autoglym Bumper Care.

According to the TV, some of that wipe-new stuff will cure all your ills and last forever

(or use SF which is my first choice followed by ultima....)

Thanks for the replies, but I was hoping for a product readily available at my local auto part store (Auto Zone, O`TReilly`s, NAPA, etc)

For OTC at the auto parts stores you could try these 2. There is Meguiar`s Ultimate Trim restorer. There is an aerosol and a lotion version. The 303 Trim Restorer would be another good choice.

You can get 303 Protectant at most auto parts stores. You will need to reapply it after washing, but it does contain UV inhibitors to slow any more fading. It works really well for interiors and rubber trim.

The 303 trim restore is great. Looks great, easy to use, durability is incredible.
