I will go with knowledge. And I, for one, very much appreciate all that you have shared.

I woke up one morning and went to the garage and discovered a baby bird was trapped in the garage over night and pooped all over the car. And of course since the car is black the poop etched into the paint.. I had to lightly sand and polish the paint to remove the etching but what an crappy morning that was.

Getting back to the OP`s question I ceramic coated the truck (color is metallic maroon) about 4 weeks ago with CSL/EXO V3 and I am amazed at how clean it has stayed through daily commutes even through 4 rain storms. Road grime is pretty much non-existent and it looks dust free at most viewing angles. Even dried bird poop washes away in the rain without leaving any stains. I can`t wait to do the black car, now.

KEVINS- You gonna get something more etching-resistant on the Mustang so you don`t have to worry about such stuff? With only a few microns to spare you wouldn`t want to be doing that aggressive stuff again.

I`ve had to do it many times unfortunately. I`m hoping by the end of July I`ll have CSL/EXO on it and that will minimize the etching.. If it doesn`t help then within a few years the car will look like a barn find.

When I coated my truck the car sat outside for 3 hours and within that time a bird got to it which etched the paint on my brand new hood -took sanding with 2500 and polishing to remove it. The car isn`t getting driven again until I get the coating on it.

KEVINS- Yikes, the birds in your area must make some nasty guano! I oughta count my blessings that my FK1000P has prevented etching just fine (for now...though I don`t want to jinx it).

Based on the bird etchings on many of my vehicles throughout the years, I`ve concluded that factory paints are more durable than any aftermarket paints we consumers can buy. My Mustang has been repainted and etches really easy as did my Grand National and my Chevelle. When I molded my own hood for the Mustang no expense was spared on the paint (over $1000 just on the paint for the hood) hoping that the price meant better quality/durable paint. That hope was crushed after those three hours.

The trucks I`ve owned throughout the years on the other hand still had the factory paint and they withstand the etching a lot better.

Again, I`m REALLY hoping that CSL/EXO helps on the Mustang.

KEVINS- Yeah, IME repaints have a few shortcomings compared to oe finishes. Never noticed any diffs regarding etching, but then I guess my LSP is taking care of that and it does make sense.

I,too, owned two black cars at the same time. Both daily drivers. In the midwest.

I considered therapy after that. Never again.

I love black cars. As long as they`re someone elses. :-)

Re: What can help keep a car cleanest between washes?

Heh heh, for years and years I insisted that all of my cars would be black, and that was back in the pre-MF days of single stage black lacquer (and you younguns think BMW Jet Black is soft..which OK, it is!). Then I decided I wanted a life beyond [messing] with my cars and now I find that a whole lot of black vehicles don`t even look good to me. Wouldn`t want *any* of our vehicles in black, they`d look all wrong IMO.

No, no...not flaming any of the black cars people here have....Regulars here know that I like what I like, and I just happen to prefer those in other colors.
