    Applicators for hand polish/wax

I currently use a standard yellow foam applicator. I see red and blue hex applicators and polishing pals. Do these have a great benefit? I have never used either one? Thanks

    Re: Applicators for hand polish/wax

I mostly prefer the yellow foams. I have used Chemical Guy`s red "ufo" or whatever they call it. Felt neat in the hand, more dense than the yellow from Megs. Would I spend extra money for it? No.

I`ve also used some Viking (?) blue MF type pads. They`re okay. They have their use, and so far I find them best for liquid wax (like PBs Natty).

I also tried out the polishing pal from Griot`s, using one of their 3" black foam pads to apply wax. I liked this set-up very much. I was able to hand apply the wax much faster with confidence (I`ve dropped a few yellow ones in the past). I`ll still use it from time to time, but I find that I like to move slower and by hand using the yellow foam. So it could be one of those "what`s best for you, at that time" type deals.

I like the polishing pal and a 4-in finishing pad (4-in white cyclo pad shown) combo. It it easier to use and if you have a da polisher with the right backing plate you can it as well as other 4-in pads. You can apply a bit more pressure for AIO`s, etc. than with a yellow foam applicator.

I prefer the purple or yellow Meguiars foam ones. They are a bit thicker than most.

Thanks, Will the 4 inch Meguiars DA Polishing Power Pad work on the pal ? That looks like a good option.

For applying LSPs I find these Buff & Shine double applicators to be very comfortable--they are made from the same red foam as their DA pads--it is soft, but has very dense pores which helps keep the product on the surface of the pad--- Buff and Shine Red Foam Wax & Sealant Applicator Pad with Notched Center (2 Pack)

If you`re talking about actual "hand polishing" ie removing swirls something like this will be more effective than a standard yellow pad--there are some other companies that also make hand polishing pads, but can`t find them right now: Tangerine Polishing EZ Grip Hydro-Tech Hand Applicator

    Found the others:

Polishing Pal works the best IMHO. The downside is, you have to get the wax out of the pad when you are done - and the glue for the Velcro is sensitive (can be) to what I use to get wax out (mineral spirits).

Another great applicator is the P21S one that comes with their 100% wax. But, I have a slew of foam UFO types I use that work fine. The best of these is the Black Fire black foam disc. The Red UFOs from CGs work well also. I got a bunch from Lake Country that were free - they aren`t bad either.

I like the yellow foams due to having what I feel is more intricate control

I like the two options from Buff and Shine. The Buff and Shine Red Foam Wax & Sealant Applicator Pad with Tapered Edge...

I`ve never tried the Polishing Pal, but I probably oughta. Looks like a better version of the Kolinski Speed Waxer thing that came out in the `80s (never tried that either).

Whenever somebody mentions "getting the wax out of the pad" I`m tempted to say "just quit using excess product"...not to sound like a scold or anything (yikes, this afternoon it sure strikes me as really critical for me to say that ) But maybe using that Polishing Pal makes it more likely for wax to deeply permeate the foam.

I have used the red buff and shine with notched center that Vega listed with fk1000p. I really enjoyed how easy it was to work with. I have not tried anything else yet... (I`m not counting the old sock i used to use before i knew any better. Definitely not recommending that.)

I have used the Buff & Shine with the `split` for applying wax and like those. But I like the hex-grip the best. I use them for applying wax and for applying pre-wax cleaning polishes. The larger hex-grip `handle` is more comfortable than a foam `disk` for me.
