Maybe I am alone, but I almost don`t see the need for them. Would love to hear some opinions on this.

I do not think they are necessary for every job but I do love them and they will always have a spot in my arsenal. Of course I wish it was cheaper but tell me that you haven`t noticed a huge difference claying after an iron remover. When applying a coating I want to make sure that the surface is as clean as possible to promote the best bonding and there I feel it is necessary. For applying a wax or sealant, maybe not as much which would explain detailers working for years without them.

Don`t forget about DoDo Ferrus Deweller. It works as good as Ironx and its 30 percent off on AG using Dodo30. I`m sure Autopia will price match. It also doesn`t stink as bad as Ironx, but it does stink.

You`re right, but I still view it another useful tool in one`s tool chest. Essential? Probably not. Helpful? Yes.

I was all excited about the 3D product believing it was going to be an economical alternative.

Bumping since this got buried pretty fast. Was hoping to hear from Ben........or someone at 3D.

I went to the Fontana, Ca 3D store yesterday and they did not have any BDX. Has this not made it to every location yet? Or just selling out super fast in the stores too?

I bought some BDX and I haven`t been impressed at all either. It even struggled to clean lightly dirty wheels. What kind of gets me is that I was trying to buy something else (5L of 1z colourtec) and I was told it was "better" than 1z. I am really about over all of the iron removers out there. For one they are expensive and two people detailed for years without them. Maybe I am alone, but I almost don`t see the need for them. Would love to hear some opinions on this.

That`s surprising to hear. Have you had better results with 1Z ColourTec? Or with a different wheel cleaner you normally use? You get about 50% more product with BDX for the same price as 1Z ColourTec with similar if not better results.

So. New test subject arrived. Between this and my parents` A6, there should be plenty of brake dust for testing. Hopefully there`s some contamination on the Q5 for testing purposes, but I doubt it. They are shipped fully covered and dealer prep includes a clay alternative decontamination.





Also, it`s competitor has arrived. Still waiting for my BDX.

SYM, we`ve got a `15 Q5 (Glacier White) and it was covered in rust blooms. Especially inside the trailing edges of the rear doors. I`m still trying to get it corrected more than one year later!

I have noticed some difference, but not a huge difference. Maybe I just haven`t seen a really contaminated vehicle? You make valid points and I don`t know, maybe I am just playing devil`s advocate here.

I just want to say, I am not trying to discount this product at all. I am just making an observation after using it for the first time. As many of us know when detailing the variables can be different for all of us. I will try the product again and who knows, maybe I will fall in love with it!

Oh I was comparing the 16.9 oz bottle of ColourTec to the 24 oz bottle of BDX. At the time of my post, BDX was on sale for the same price as ColourTec at $14.99 but you received 24 ounces instead of 16.9. So you would get almost 50% more product for the same price. I didn`t consider that you purchased the gallon size.

I haven`t tried BDX diluted yet. I decided to wait until I use the rest of my gallon of Optimum Ferrex before I pickup a gallon of BDX.

Yes, they are wrapped at the factory and remain wrapped until the dealer removes the covering. The covers may be temporarily removed at port for certain port installed options, but they are then put back into place.

Have you tried valugard ABC? It`s supposed to be perfect for that sort of thing

Bill, I`ve been using Optimum`s FerreX product. That seems to address it rather nicely. I`m still working my way around the vehicle to find all the other spots. Those inside edges of the doors are still clean.
