New 2015 Turtle Wax Shine Lock Sealant. Thoughts & Discussion?

I started a thread on this product over on AGO. Figured I would see what the fellow Autopian community has to say about it.

We know there isn`t a lot of love for turtle wax products minus a couple that have been sleeper type products. Such as their rinseless wash, jet black trim coating, jet black tire coating which are great.

Well I stumbled upon this. Looks like Turtle Wax is joining in on the long term protection type products for their 2015 line of new products. Thoughts?

    Pulled this from their site.

    FAQ:

    Q: What is a Sealant?

    A: Sealant chemistry
uses next-generation technology to protect your car all four seasons. The
fast-acting polymers instantly bond to your car’s paint and cure on the surface,
creating an ultra-durable layer of protection. The advanced interlocking
polymers of SHINE LOCK™ SEALANT are engineered to lock in
    shine.

Q: When and why should I use Sealant?

    A: Every car
owner has their own regiment for car care. We recommend using Sealant at least
once a year to give your car the most advanced protection against fading,
oxidation, and scratching. To maximize the surface bonding, clean & smooth
    the paint before using.

    Q: What is Smart Shield
    Technology?

A: The chemists at Turtle Wax developed interlocking polymers
that work together to build layers of shine & protection. Each product is
formulated with the most advanced technology to deliver superior results. Even
better, when you use multiple SMART SHIELD products within the system, the
results amplify for unbeatable shine & protection.

When you think about it, Ice really was the first "main stream" sealant that caught on.
Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!

Ice was my first sealant. Thought it was the greatest stuff ever until realizing just how bad it was. Wipe off was ridiculous. Never really paid attention to durability. I`ll let someone else give this stuff a shot before I try it.

If its wipe on walk away AND sun friendly, I may be interested. If I recall, ice was sun friendly

Maybe this is my issue, but I see TW as a company I probably don`t want to support. Same with Zentool or whoever makes or sells the Rupes knock off.

Other companies have pushed the envelope innovating new products for the detailing market. I`d much rather support them - regardless of how good this TW product is. I see Turtle Wax as a company that has given ZERO back to the detailing enthusiast community, other than whatever little they do to hawk their products via You Tube & their website.

A sealant isn`t really that expensive. You can get Duragloss for like 10 bucks a bottle. Why anyone in this forum would be interested in this stuff is beyond me.

Yep. I know I used it.

Not only hard to wipe off but hard to wash off your hands too. Hell it`s been probably 5-7 years since I`ve used it and I probably still have some left on my hands.

Exactly. They just realized that they had to do a little work now to not get completely left behind. However as long as they had ICE and the black box I bet they could continue to make money for the next decade off of those. TW will continue to make huge profits being at bog box stores.

I walked in to Menards today and saw a TW product called metallic wax. I thought to myself what in the world is this all about? I think of TW as an obsolete brand that can`t make a quality product. But the rinseless wash is a winner. I find very little if not no difference with that to Optimum`s No Rinse.

Their jet black tire coating is a winner in my book. Too bad they phased out the rinseless wash.

Very true. I almost think the TW was just relabeled ONR.

I am 55 years old and Turtle Wax was one of the first waxes I ever tried. You had DuPont, Johnson`s, Megs, and that was about it. Now, you have 50 shades of the same stuff courtesy of rebranding and everybody thinks it`s so much better than what Bubba at Sally Mart buys. I ain`t afraid to say I am so over thinking that way.
All I have in this world is my word, and my balls and I don`t break `em for no one, you understand?"

I have not seen it on the shelves out here in So Cal in a long time at Autozone that use to carry it or at the walmart`s around here. I`ll keep an eye out.

Yes, Turtle Wax was, and still is, a consumer-recognized brand name. It was THE leader in over-the-counter car-care chemical sales back in late 60`s and 70`s. Unfortunately, the company has abandoned developing and manufacturing their own products in the Chicago area to remain an economically viable (IE, survive financially) in today`s business climate. I think they are surviving by marketing to (AKA preying on) consumer`s legacy brand-name recognition

I liked there black trim protectant that had a dye in it and used their Poly-Shell Sealant System that was very good in the late 70`s (still got a box which sold for about $20 at K-Mart). But after finding and using Meg`s Mirror-Brite products when they were first manufactured in Nashville, Tennessee, I moved on as well.
