So, I have been reading alot on the Rupes. I currently use the Porter Cable as well as the Flex Orbitals and have my Dewalt Rotary for those "special occasions". My question is: Before spending several hundred dollars on a Rupes, will I see a large difference in the Rupes v. the PC/Flex in terms of smoothness, power, weight and comfort. I guess what I am looking for is re-assurance that I will see a large enough difference to justify the purchase. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.`

You want the Rupes 21, not the 15. 21 with its larger throw will correct paint faster. It also finishes out very well. As far as is it worth it? If something happened to both of my Rupes 21s, I would order 2 more tomorrow. Kevin Brown from www.buffdaddy.com is your best source for all things rupes. He thought of the washer/spacer mod to get more rotation out of the rupes and includes that with each purchase.`

^^^ Agreed. You can also use the smaller bp off of the 15 on the 21. win/win deal.

I appreciate the input. I am going to put it on my list of things to buy before the spring. I will go with the 21. I am glad to hear it will correct quicker and is smooth. I would like to get the 5" backing plate as an add on. Buffdaddy has a grey plastic normal hold or blue plastic extra hold. Which one is better, or can I just use my current 5" backing plate (meaning is the thread size the same as would be on the Porter Cable)?`

I switched over to the gray. The blue is x-tra strong and I was tearing up pads if I wasn`t careful removing them.
