OK, so I just got back up from playing around on my cars paint. I am uploading pics now so I will post soon. Cliff notes: Initial results from day 1, not that interesting!

OK, exciting results (ya right). The paint on my car is in really good condition, so I washed it, 106FF/black`d the hood, ISA:water`d, taped it off into 4 sections, and applied CJ, OCW, Z8, and AJ. I put CJ+OCW (50/50) on the roof.

    After tape, no sealants yet:

    After sealants:

I couldn`t really see any difference between them to be honest. I looked, they all looked good to me. In terms of slickness there were some pretty big differences. AJ and Z8 were both very slick, too close to call. OCW was right there too, maybe a bit less. CJ was not very slick at all, which has been my experience with it. It looked good, but there was almost no slickness. (Incidentally, CJ+OCW on the roof was about as slick as OCW by itself).

    Products:

The CJ+OCW mix in is the unlabelled OCW bottle (before I tore the label off it was such a pain figuring out which was which, since they smell so similar!), and yes my Z8 is in a Z16 bottle. :/

I went a bit further, since I don`t own the car anymore and don`t really care about how clean it is in the winter... I dumped some water on it.

You could totally see the tape marks, it was sort of interesting. At first I didn`t notice much of a difference in beading.

So I let it sit for ~3-4 minutes and sheet off a bit.

AJ was beading well. It also sheeted the best (definitely had the least water after 2-3 min).

Z8 had the smallest/tightest beads by far. They were probably half the size of the next closest, AJ.

OCW was ok, didn`t sheet super well but beaded about as well as AJ.

CJ sheeted the least and the beads were the largest by far, they were also the most misshapen.

So I will treat it like normal over the next three weeks and report back. Fun times.

It didn`t take long, besides, I needed to clean it up anyway.

So sort of interesting (to me) update. I just ran down to the garage because I needed a drill, and I looked at the hood and noticed something kind of neat. I left the water above on the hood (not something I`d normally do, but I wanted to treat it like rain or something), and right now the section that has AJ on it is pretty much totally clean while the rest of the hood has a pretty fair number of water spots on it (not etchings, just evaporated water). The OCW section has the second least, Z8 section has slightly more but not a huge amount, and the Cj section is covered. I wonder if maybe the added slickness of AJ allowed the water to sheet off better? You can kind of see in the pic above how the water in the AJ section was really flowing off the hood long after the other sections. If that`s the case I wonder why the Z8 section has some spots since it was as slick or even more.

    Weird.

Oh well, more in the future!

(edit. I should add that when I say AJ, I mean AJ TRIGGER...sorry!)

Kevin, thanks for doing this but that Z-8 looks like an older bottle. Do you have the latest black bottle version?

Yep, that`s actually a Z16 bottle. The sprayer on my Z8 bottle broke so I just poured it into an old cleaned out Z16 bottle.

I just got this Z8 along with Z5pro ~1 month ago, the Z5 bottle said "New" on top (and the liquid is purple), and the Z8 bottle looked like this:

That`s the new one right? I never had the old one (white bottle, purple lettering I think?)

Maybe when I am done I will just put all the posts into one thread. That way it`ll stay current.

Like I said above, I only have the car for ~24 more days so hopefully there is some interesting "action" before then or this will all have been in vain!

How about giving the car a wash a day and see how it beads in the end maybe even a few dawn washes.

Ya, I guess I could do that. How about this, I will ONR wash it every couple days for the next two weeks, and if they`re still going strong I will dawn wash it and see what happens?

I normally ONR wash 2-3x a week anyway and I put a ton of km on my car (and it`s winter), so it should be sort of like a hyper-accelerated test to some extent.

Actually that brings up a good point; can anyone confirm if ONR definitely does or does not add protection?

While I have been detailing for a long time, thank God I found Autopia! Been using Zaino for about 1 year (Z2-Pro) and Menzerna polishes. While Im anal when I detail, Im getting old and so busy with other things, I must have durability and great shine. Thus my choice in products.

I would prefer a wash a week since that will simulate real world conditions, at least for us Autopians.
