    Hi Folks,

I`ve just bought RMG and VM for the first time (from PAKSHAK-great service as always!), which I plan to use under UPP as the LSP on my gold metallic Silvia. Has anyone had any issues with water-based UPP bonding with those two poducts?

    Thank you.

    Todd,

I searched quite a few threads before using UPP on RMG and the concensus was that it is OK.

It looks good on my car.

UPP over RMG looks excellent but is about as durable as a QD.

UPP on any type of glaze will not sit great. It will sit well, but not as it is intended.......Durability will definetely be compromised...

I use UPP quite a bit and never use a glaze prior to applying......Just my own individual experience.....

As far as I know, it is in fact water-based, though that doesn`t mean it doesn`t contain solvents.

Oddly, they don`t seem to say much about this anymore at the PAC site (they let the $24.95 price speak for itself--when did this stuff get so expensive?), over at Autogeek they say "The water-based Four Star formula..." but also "The rich Tri-Polymer formula is refined with mineral spirits". I don`t know at what point something changes over from water-based to solvent-based, but compared to say, NXT, EX-P, SG, it`s got quite a solvent odor.

I understand what you mean; I suspect that some manufacturers may choose what the official "base" is by what they think their customers would prefer (for bonding issues, etc), even though it may not actually be the "base" component. Of course, with many products it`s obvious.

Now Patrick, would this be true with all sealants or just UPP, in your opinion.

I never knew that about UPP; thanks for the info :xyxthumbs

I`ve used that combo before (RMG/UPP) and was pretty impressed with it. I also had Optimum Polish/UPP on my car and didn`t see much of a difference durability wise between the two. They both were OK.

Think of like making a PB&J sandwich. Lay down your jelly on one piece of bread and then try to lay the PB down on top of it.
