I went to best Buy the other day.

I was browsing their component speakers. They only had 3 types of Component brands --1) Alpine Type R 2-way components

    2) Rockford-fosgate 2-way components

    & 3) Kenwood 2-way components

The Best buy rep turned on the music for the three and i listened to the sound quality of each. Quite Strangely, through this best buy`s Model speakers, The Rockford Fosgates were sounding FAR greater in sound quality as compared to the Alpines, i was shocked.... (Forget about the Kenwood-they sounded bad)

Everytime i ask people about good car speakers, they mention Alpine rocks! However, they didn`t perform well at all where i listened to them.

So I asked the rep, "Man, is the volume for these Alpines set on something lower as compared to the Rockfords" and hes like " NO, In component speakers, Rockford Foasgates are the Absolute best (from what best buy sells) even better than the Alpine.

But i was like everyone says alpines are better than Rockfords but hes like" No, Alpine is the best in SUBS but not components"

So i don`t know what to do now. i was gonna buy the Alpines but since they didn`t sound good at the store, i wanna get the Rockfords. i`m confused man.

Anyones who has some insight on this, please advise me from within these two brands ( Alpine Type R components VS. Rockford components. maybe they were damaged at the best buy that I listened to them at or maybe rockfords are better. Please help. Thanx.

Alpine are an excellent brand overall, but their electronics are their strongest product. I wouldn`t buy component speakers from any of the listed brands.

For Subs: JL Audio, Crossfire, Diamond Audio, Elemental Design and a few others.

For Speakers: JL Audio, Diamond Audio, MB Quart, Polk Audio, Focal and a few others

What you need to do is take some of the music you listen too and check them out in person.

sound quality is totally dependent on install. Listening to a set of speakers in a building such as Best Buy will not sound the same way as compared to listening to the same speakers installed in a car. Your best bet is to find someone with these speakers installed and listen to them.

    my recommendations:

speakers: DLS, CDT, Focal, MBQuart, Elemental Designs, Adire Audio, RE

Subs: RE, Adire audio, Ascendant Audio, JL Audio, Elemental Design.

I`ve got a lonely 8" Elemental sub. Very nice and

    tight bass. :xyxthumbs

CDT and Focal make super natural sounding

speakers. But they also cost a lot more, and I couldn`t

find a set that would fit in the stock locations w/o

modification. So I went with JLs`. Not nearly as good

as Focal or CDT, but way superior to Pioneer,

    Kenwood, or even Alpine.

My favorite phrase is "huh? Bang for the buck I go with Pioneer. I also love Audiocontrol stuff. Of course I have calmed down a lot...

I used to be really into that type of stuff (Before I had kids and my money dried up!) and I went to as many audio stores and listened to all the speakers they had on display. IMO, those three you picked are going to be o.k., but nothing spectacular. I heard M.B. Quart is really good, but somewhat pricey. My favorites are Infinity Kappas and Boston Acoustics. Both of those sounded the cleanest and clearest to me.

I haven`t had much experience with the two you mentioned. From my experience in the past, companies that specialized in speakers, e.g. Infinity & Boston Acoustics, tend to have better speakers than the ones that do produce many othe products. I know Alpine has some great decks & amps and Rockford Fosgate is famous for their line of amps. If you can, you really should try and listen to them at the local stores. Speakers are a lot like waxes. What I like may not be what you like.

Forced to choose between the two, I`d say decide what you want in your music:

High Quality sound / reasonable output (volume) : Alpine

    Harsh-sound / high output (volume) : Rockford
