should I let the dealer ?

Hey everyone. I just bought my very first brand new car. Its nothing special, but I like it. its a 2012 Ford Fiesta. Anyway when we were buying the car I noticed it had a chip in the paint on the hood and on the front bumper. also the paint on the side view mirror where the paint meets plastic trim the paint is peeled off. The dealer said that they will fix it But I am worried. I had planed on opti coating the car right after I bought it but I don`t know if i should just try to touch up the areas as best I can and then opti coat or let the dealer fix it. They said they would repaint the whole hood bumper and mirror. I am nervous that it will 1. not look as good as new. 2. Worried that there will be over spray every where. 3.worried that they will tear up bolts that are painted. 4. worried the bumper will not be put back together right. 5. will have to wait longer to opti coat due to fresh paint. Am I being way to paranoid about this? Please give me your thoughts.

Was the car already that way before you took delivery/at the time you took delivery? How long have you had it now?



If so, you should never have accepted it in the first place, especially if it wasn`t a special order (meaning bought from dealer inventory). Now, you have little choice but to live with touch-ups that will never be perfect, or let the dealer refinish the affected parts of the vehicle knowing that those too may never look totally perfect (in the eyes of an Autopian). That is, unless you can convince the dealer to take the car back so you can buy a different one that doesn`t have these flaws.



That said, I do think you are being a bit too paranoid. Is the dealer`s body shop I-CAR certified, and/or certified by any paint manufacturer like PPG or DuPont? If so, great.... otherwise I`d be telling them you want it done at a shop that is certified to improve the chances that you`ll get a quality result.

as i said before we did notice these problems as we were buying the car and the dealer assured me they wouod fix it. This was the car my wife wanted and she thinks it will be fine i just have my doubts on how it may look. i will look into if the dealer is i car certifed.

Hence why I said "improve the chances that you`ll get a quality result" -- doesn`t mean there are ever any guarantees.

Just like any educational program, the subject may be taught by the best teachers, with the best and most current information, the student tested, etc, does not mean that the student is smart enough to apply the knowledge and processes they learned.

Sort of like the kid in high school who slept through most of a history class, passed the test, but when asked who was our 16th President comes back with a blank stare.

Be it ASE, I-CAR, or even medical school graduates, some people should just stay behind the window at Mickey D`s for the rest of their lives.
