I`ve been having a real rough go lately at finding a job, i`m a recent college grad with my BBA and came across this company that was hiring territory managers. I figured with my experience in auto detailing/automotive it would make me a shoe in over the other candidates.. but I`m curious if anyone here knows about this company or how they operate? Is this one of those deals where I run around trying to sell bodyshops their products only to be told sorry we stick to what we got already not interested kinda thing... or is it something that looks interesting with a reputable/profitable company.

    Here`s some links

Transtar is a reputable company. We use their clear and primer in out auto body shop. Seems like you will be selling to local auto body supply companies and maybe shops.

Is this position in Michigan or Georgia?

I personally don`t see alot of Transtar in the Body Shops I visit. That could be good and/or bad. Like all other related products/companies, you`ll be calling on both new and existing clients trying to grow Transtar`s marketshare. Sounds interesting depending on their pay structure (hopefully base + commission w/company car). You should also give Finishmaster, PPG, Sherman Williams, Akzo-Nobel, 3M and the others a look too.

Then you shouldn`t even think about the job.

You will be calling on PBE suppliers and stores, selling new products, you will go with the stores sales people to shops to present and demo products, you will have to take care of field customer complaints, sell them on what you have been trained is "right", etc.

What sort of background/degree do you have?

There are actually people out there who go to college with the specific idea of getting INTO sales, so I wouldn`t say customer service and sales is only a job for those who did not pursue higher education.

that`s not what i said did I. I personally am not a sales person and I never will be. I don`t have the outgoing `I will-out-personality-you` attitude that makes some people amazing at their sales jobs. No i`m not attacking anyone either that`s just the way it is. I am humble, honest, and ethical, that doesn`t get you very far.

You don`t have to be brash, sleazy and dishonest to be a sales person, though I agree, that is the typical sales guy. Some of the most amazing sales guys are none of that, but what they are is people people. Probably the most important part is being an extrovert. If you are an introvert, sales is really draining.

I think you should reconsider that line if that is how you feel though. Do what you love and it won`t seem like work.

Transtar is known around here by body shops. Their materials are decent for painting daily driver cars and such. I know lots of shops use their primers and clears and I have personally used a lot of it as well with great results. Now would I use it on a high dollar car or classic? No. I have seen a lot do so though but I just do not do it because I stick to what I know well and that is SPI, House of Kolor and PPG. Dupont has their nice high end line of paint too...

Anyways, to answer your question more, they are a reputable company but I believe it has a lot to do with sales and customer service I`m sure.

    Good luck!
