I thought I`d post the question and subject myself to some good opinions

I recently bought a set of tires for a spare set of wheels for my summer car, these tires tend to last a long time given the status of the wheels overall. As it turns out though the tires that are on those wheels now will probably last a couple more seasons and I might try and "use them up" faster by putting them on the daily driver for a while but still.

So, for the tires I just bought that might have to wait a couple years to get on the above wheels, what would be my best bet for storing them until I get them mounted. Right now they`re all dressed up and in black plastic bags in a dark closet, does anyone have any better suggestions that might help keep them new until I use them?

IMO you`re doing about all you can already.

While these days it`s popular to say how tires have a very limited shelf-life, that hasn`t been my experience. But I would try to be reasonable about it and not wait many years before putting them into service.

Thats pretty much all you can do, unless you have the space to put them on a rack similiar to what you would see in a tire store (kind of a cradle)

Thanks guys...it hasn`t been my experience either that my tires have a limited shelf life, I`m sure there a number of variables that could play into that one way or another. My tires tend to last a long time and I`ve yet to have one go due to dry rot.

I wanted to post the idea here because as in a lot of cases, here is where you can really get the good ideas from others. Right now I keep all my tires and tires mounted on wheels stacked horizontally on top of each other with neoprene layered in between. Would storing them in a cradle make a difference if I can come up with a way to store them like that? what would be the benefit exactly over my current method aside from any weight factors that might be involved?

I think what you did will be fine, seems to me that`s what Tire Rack recommends.

How I store them is actually my own variation of what I read there a few years back, I`ll continue with what I`m doing then.

As a side note, tires seems to last me a long time and it`s gotten to the point that buying a replacement set is almost cause for celebration

Replacement is something like money wasting. If you want, you can try some tips on how to care for your tires.

My friend Alex is a motor rider too, but within he replace his tires only once a year. That is something fabulous, right.?

I`d have to burn tires off of wheels if I wanted to replace them once a year...they tend to last a long time. I have purposely burned some up too though just to "finish em up" and get a new set
