Hey guys im stucked in this decision.

I have about 8 grand to play with for new car. I new to do a vs. if thats alright.

Its a 1965 442 that has a completly rebuilt 350, rebuilt trainy, rebuilt everything,

The only down fall is the paint sucks, and interior. but i will have a few grand to play with the paint.

    vs.

1988 corvette v8, only has exhaust, custom wheels, and tall lights. It has perfect paint and interior and have around 1500 to play with on performance. What could i do as far as performace if u think corvette.

What do u think would have more pontential in 1/4mile, reliabilty, overall louder, top speed.

Please no flaming, im really stuck

    Thanks,

    Adam

While I would normally say corvette hands down, my dad used to own an 88 and from that I would pick the 442 over it assuming you have enough to redo the interior and atleast protect the paint/body enough so that it wont rust until you can get a good paint job.

you should look at early 90`s vette over the late 80`s IMO.

I think the vette would win performance wise, but the 442 would probably turn more heads. My buddy had a 1986, and it wasn`t too much to run with, performance wise. I think it was putting down 240 or so. A set of cams and heads would really have woken it up though.

well the 442 is was dynoed(sp) and it was pulling alittle over 500 horse, completly built for the strip, how much do u think would it cost for for very little rust damage to be fixed and a black with silver racing strips would cost?

Depends on the quality, where you are at, and who you know. If you`ve got a friend, you could get a solid job for 1000. Down here in South Florida, a great paintjob averages 6 or 7 thousand, and a good one maybe half that.

I`d go for the 442 over the vette. There are too many vette`s out there and the 442 is more of head turner. Also you can make that thing sound really nasty!

that is the only corvette engine I would not want!

if you want a vette fine a reg small block or LT1 (or ls1 but I don`t think it will fit you budget)

is this going to be a toy/weekend car?

    if so get the 442

if it did 500hp on the dyno(I would want to see the dyno sheet)

it is 2x what the vette has

My buddy`s in New Hampshire unfortunately... but David Fermani knows all the paint guys down here (he`s an insurance adjuster), PM him and he`ll point you in the right direction.

    ok cool thanks themightytimmah,

bigjimz28, im going to be using the car to go to work but my work is jsut down the street, but i think if im going to go anywear else ill have someone else drive. I would like to go to the strip once and awhile, thats why i would like to have a car that can atleast do 11s or high tens..with no more than 2 thousand to play with..thats why im kinda not liking the 88 corvette because it doesnt have much horsepower stock, and im not sure what the best things would be to get with limited money

Still, 500 HP from a 350? I`d want to see the sheets, as Big Jim suggested.

An L98 Corvette was high performance in its time, but it`s no monster.

I can agree with others on the 4-4-2 getting more curb appeal.

The Corvettes, as nice as I think they are, had their electrical and mechanical quirks and aren`t necessarily attention getters today.

442 would prolly be easier to get your money out of too, you would not lose on it as long as you didn`t get carried away with it.

Like they said 442. easy to work on and can make lots of power.

The vette had the TPI but only 240-245 stock HP. They can make a lot of power also but its going to take a lot of money.(Turbo, tuning, and so on)
