My dad is considering getting another clear coat put on my `01 Chevy Silverado. I was wondering if this would be okay or not. I would think that the additional coat (other than the one it came with from the factory) might peel or do some other wierd thing to the finish. What`s your opinion?

What`s the rationale here? Have you had the current paint evaluated by a true pro?

It is quite unusual to only apply clear... plus, properly applied and finished, the cost would be several thousand dollars.

There is nothing wrong with re-clearing a vehicle. Personally I think it is a good idea because they don`t put much clear on vehicles now anyway. I almost bought a brand new 06 last year and I was going to reclear the whole truck and color sand and buff it but i just repainted my 2000 and fixed it up. Cost will really depend on the area that you live in and if there is nothing wrong with the paint (the color part) and there aren`t any dents or chips, I say get it done. A gallon of clear should do the whole truck with 2 coats and they range anywhere from $100 gallon up to $300 + gallon. Most shops should be able to do this in about 3 days and I would say the total price would be anywhere from $800-$1200 but like I s aid it depends on where you are
