I have EBC rotors and Hawk pads and I really like them. Mine are slotted and dimpled. I would stay away from drilled rotors.

I would also vouch against cross drilled rotors. I have them installed on the civic and while I do notice an increase in performance, I attribute this to the KVR CF pads more so than the KVR cad plated cross drilled rotors. If I had to go back in time to when I placed my order, I would choose either slotted, or Brembo blanks.

There is a lot of truth to the surface area issue of cross drilled and slotted rotors though.

you`ll notice greater benefits in using a high performance pad, over a high performance rotor.

You also mentioned caliper paint. I`ve used some G2 red caliper paint. It works pretty well and even chlorinated brake cleaner doesn`t mess it up.

For rotors, I`m getting some good results with Brembo sport slotted fronts and stoptech slotted rears. The Brembo sports are yellow zinc plated; hopefully that will be fairly durable.

I got my brakes from a VW aftermarket distributor (ecs tuning) and they slot/zinc plate then resell the Brembo sports. I run them with Hawk Ceramics and OMG! do they bring the dub to a stop.

I also have Powerslots on my old GTI and Mintex pads, and that`s a track car. Powerslots are excellent rotors for the price. I`ll also 2nd/3rd/4th the `slotted over drilled` conversation. IMO, people that buy drilled rotors do it because it "looks cool" and have no idea about the performance aspect.

I`m currently saving up my money for some cadmium-plated, cryo-treated rotors. :grinno:

I detailed a client`s car yesterday and he is on the board of directors for HADA (largest motorspor club in Canada)...on his car he had $300 brake pads from Japan made by Project Mu. I was shocked that on OEM rotors (honda), the car was able to stop stupid fast!

With that said, I recommend you check them out.

I personally would recommend Brembo blanks and something like Hawk HPS pads, as they are easy to get. If you want more info on the Project U pads, let me know and I will contact my client.

Here`s some info on the different styles of rotors...

I used to think the name was Project U also, but it`s actually Project Mu.

I have used these on my VW. Good rotors initially, but mine rusted terribly and I replaced them before they wore out.

I ended up replacing them with Teves (ATE) plated, slotted rotors.

The slotted rotors make the pads dust like crazy, but the brakes bite a lot harder! I`ve only had them on a couple weeks, so I can`t speak to the life of the plating, but I imagine plating has to last longer than any paint, even e-coat. Time will tell.

The plating on the wear surfaces wore off the first day. Great braking from the first stop!

Slotted. After heavy heat and when used on a heavy car the drilled can develop fine cracks as mentioned before. If you have good stopping power stick with stock. Some cars, like Honda`s and some Toyotas, have weak stopping power and for those I recommend the slotted. Why fix what`s not broken, and use the money on more important things.

Here are a few pictures of the rotors I received. These are the EBC Ultimax Black Dash Series. They`re more money but I`d rather have an American made rotor than an offshore made rotor.

    Front (12")

    Rear (11")

Hopefully I`ll get some time this week to put them on the car, paint my calipers, and install the caliper decals. I will post more pics when I get that done.

    Feel free to comment.
