I put on Ceramic dis-brake pads on my Ford Ranger 4x4 months ago for two reasons one the truck stops better that`s great for a towing the Detailing trailer that is filled w/ a ton of stuff and leaves hardly any brake dust. The Ceramic dis-brake pads alone cost was $90.00 plus machine the rotors, I did the labor myself.

I find by installing the Ceramic dis-brake pads the rims stays clean w/o building up on brake dust like it did /w the reg pads. It stops on a dime w/o much foot pressure and the pads will last the life of the truck will. If you are going to do a brake job I recommend switching to Ceramic pads.

Also I’m running Mobile 1 full Synthetic oil I get better mileage and don’t have to change oil as much every 5000 miles and the engine is cleaner, better startups and I’m getting 1 or 2 more miles a gal.

My mileage is 17 town 22 fwy 4.0L engine running a K&n filter /w custom cold air intake.

Good to hear about the ceramic pads. One comment though, unless it was a typo you shouldn`t even consider 50K between oil changes regardless you`ll be asking for trouble and significant engine wear.

Glad to see it`s only 5000 miles between oil changes.

Yeah, ceramic pads are supposed to be the best. Good to hear they`re working for you. What brand did you get??

Ceramic pads are definitely worth the investment when it comes to reduced dust and long life, but don`t fool yourself that they`ll last the life of the truck. I put some on the front of a Ford conversion van several years ago after wearing out some semi-metallics in less than a year (heavy vehicle with under-sized rotors and lots of city driving) and a year and a half later the ceramics were halfway down. Much longer than the cheap pads, but they do wear. I understand there are semi-metallics that will stop faster, one`s that are designed for race and high-performance applications, but the really aggressive ones will wear down your rotors a lot faster too.

Good idea on the Mobil 1, too. This month I switched my car to Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil that`s rated for 15k miles. I sure won`t push it nearly that far, but I`m confident it`s good oil. I hope you also invested in a good filter. There`s an interesting review of filters at http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html It appears the biggest thing these days is to avoid Fram, but there`s a lot of good info at that site. I gotta admit, I`d be awfully surprised if the synthetic oil made that much difference in your mileage all by itself, at most I gained 0.2 mpg increase.

Rotors are so cheap now because they are made in China or someplace back there.

Yea I have Mobil 1 Extended Performance cost the same as the reg Mobil 1 where I bought it so.. I change the oil at 5000 because of build up of acids and what ever develops in the oil.

If you really want stopping power change the brake booster to a bigger one or a high performance one.

Oh also the Ceramic pads don’t heat up as much as do the reg one do anyway Thanks for the relay

Yeah, I just put ceramic pads on our minivan and I have to say that they have excellent feel and the stopping power is really nice. There is also very little dust to boot. I only paid ~$40 for them from a specialist parts place that I get all my brakes from. If anyone is local and interested in the place let me know and I`ll send you the info.

I bought my pads (they were semi-ceramic) at Pep Boys but I don`t recall the brand. It was in 2001 and they cost $70 at the time. It was a popular brake brand, not a store line.

I know nothing about brakes, but the lack of brake dusting sounds interesting. Can anyone recommend a good brand of ceramic pads that will fit a tC?

I had ceramics on the Maxima, and they did appear to dust less. The wheels still got dusty, but not as fast as with typical organic brake pads. I believe I have semi-ceramics on the Protege, because I don`t think the full ceramics were in stock or something. I can`t remember why, but I would have gotten ceramics for the Protege if it were an option. I wanted to replace my brakes that day (warped rotor) so I just bought what I could.

Yes, Raybestos has the Quiet Stop line, which are excellent. Available anywhere Raybestos brakes are sold (Kragen, Shucks, Checkers... maybe pep boys?).

I had the Quiet Stop on my Accord. Great pads, almost no dusting and had better feel than the Axis Metal Masters I previously had.
