#3: Sense of Pride and Accomplishment
How do you feel after spending hours meticulously washing, polishing, and applying your favorite LSP? Do you spend some time just looking at the fruits of your labor? Do you gently touch the car to feel how buttery smooth the paint is? Does it all just bring a smile to your face?
For me, detailing a car to the best of my ability brings a tremendous amount of pride and a sense of accomplishment.
I`ll bet it does the same for you too...

3) It`s a joy to own a special car that`s been throughly detailed. A lot of people own a blue Toyota Corolla, but yours is the best one because it`s been maintained with some effort :) That`s my joy of detailing my own car, many people other own it, but might not be this clean and shiny.
Re: 8 Reaons To Detail Your Ride (Hidden Giveaway)
Clean, polished car looks awesome and stands out
A protected vehicle is easier to clean and keep looking awesome
Clean protected car gets better gas mileage due to slip stream ($ spent protecting it definitely voids this ;)) but I don`t care
Gives me a nice outdoor escape from my honey do list and I enjoy it (mostly).
It`s something I can make some extra money at and also help out my friends
And
Lastly
I like clean everything and the car is no exception.

Be Stress Free. I detail my 5 cars and use this time to forget about my job.
Re: 8 Reaons To Detail Your Ride (Hidden Giveaway)
I hate driving a dirty car.

#3 - Being Present. Detailing is one of the few ways I`m able to be Present. I take my time no matter what I`m doing and enjoy the process. To quote my fellow Autopians below, we`re all savoring the moment and the benefits that come with it:

For me I`d have to say either therapy/relaxing/getting away or the awesome pride and satisfaction you get from making a car look stunning...and knowing that it`s all because of you. That feeling of accomplishment just brings a big smile to my face.

#3. Lower repair bills. Regular maintenance and cleaning will reduce the chance of corrosion or rust, which can lead to higher repair costs. It`s easy to tell the difference in a car that has been maintained and one that has been neglected. Some people just run their car through a swirl-o-matic once a month and that just does not work (probably causing more problems). You may not be able fix interior tears and holes, but the very least you can do is give your car a good vacuum on the inside and an a good maintenance wash and LSP on the outside. While you are actually touching all the interior and exterior pieces you will notice small problems that could possibly become big problems if not taken care of right away. You become one with your vehicle. Turn on the jams and engage yourself to reduce stress and aggravation. Seek out the body lines of the car and picture the clay model of what an engineer saw - while you wash away the crud of everyday life. Watch the self accomplishment unfold in front of you as the water sheets off the car, panel by panel. There is nothing more gratifying than stepping back from the vehicle and saying to yourself "yup, I did that!".

a clean, shiny car is a happy car ! (or truck or motorcycle or boat...):rockon
Re: 8 Reaons To Detail Your Ride (Hidden Giveaway)
Ray,
Excellent, well thought out, and thorough/"detailed" list. I especially like your story on how you got your start in the detailing profession. I`m convinced most of us could still impress 95% of all but the most discerning car enthusiasts with OTC Meguiars or Mothers products from Wally World. "It`s the archer, not the arrow". Although, I`ll take a compound bow (DA/Rotary) over a recurve bow (hand polishing) any day of the week.
Keep up the great work on Autopia,
Bob

#3. It gives you time to appreciate the intricacies of automotive design.
I may not have designed my car, but when I`m detailing it, I`m imagining the clay modeler sculpting the contours on the hood, or the designer creating the wheels, and I appreciate the work that has to go into every component of the vehicle to create a cohesive final product.

The look on a friend`s, family member`s, or customer`s face when they see their vehicle transformed by our hard work detailing their, car, motorcycle, RV, or boat.
Nothing like having your 2, 4, 8, or 30 plus hours of dedicated labor being appreciated by the owner of the aforementioned vehicle.
Those kind words and appreciation are what make us strive for perfection.
