[We need to be clear which emotions are harmful and which are helpful; then cultivate those that are conducive to peace of mind. Often, due to a lack of knowledge, we accept anger and hatred as natural parts of our minds. This is an example of ignorance being the source of our problems. To reduce our destructive emotions we strengthen the positive ones; such emotional hygiene can contribute to a healthier society] - Dalai Lama
What gets overlooked too often is that one must be a student before becoming a teacher.

A closed mind is not only closed to outside thoughts, it is often closed to itself as well. It is closed to new thoughts and anything that threatens the status quo.
What gets overlooked too often is that one must be a student before becoming a teacher.

[I usually say the aim of life is to be happy. Our existence is based on hope. Our life is rooted in the opportunity to be happy, not necessarily wealthy, but happy within our own minds. If we only indulge in sensory pleasure, we’ll be little different from animals. In fact, we have this marvellous brain and intelligence; we must learn to use it] - Dalai Lama

[Mentally, physically and emotionally we are the same. We each have the potential to good and bad and to be overcome by disturbing emotions such as anger, fear, hatred, suspicion and greed. These emotions can be the cause of many problems. On the other hand if you cultivate loving kindness, compassion and concern for others, there will be no room for anger, hatred and jealousy] - Dalai Lama

<span style="color:#0070c0;"><span style="font-family:`times new roman`, serif;">`[Once we have a firm practice of compassion our state of mind becomes stronger which leads to inner peace, giving rise to self-confidence, which reduces fear. This makes for constructive members of the community. Self-centeredness on the other hand leads to distance, suspicion, mistrust and loneliness, with unhappiness as the result] - <span style="font-family:`times new roman`, serif;">Dalai Lama

A religious topic and a universal one. I am catholic. Not converting. Love the new pope. Don`t always agree with the lama but he is a man of great wisdom and would love to play a round of golf with him. Regardless of religious affiliation one could Do much worse then to contiplate the words of this man. He transcends religion and cuts to the heart of human nature.

Which brings us to the "texting", the use of "non-confrontational" expressions in regards to those in our lives. What I see in the Dalai Lama`s advice is important today. Lack of "empathy" due to the electronic use of communication.`

Some one, much wiser than me, once said--

Take care of your thoughts when you are alone. And, take care of your words when you are with people..

Today`s world is one that people forget the simple fact that what they "text or write on an internet site" is read and thought about by those who read it. There is no immediate reaction, like "face to face", so the one`s that just say things without thinking the words through. and the damage they may create, believe they are absolved of any personal investment of their words.
