Question Easy-Off oven cleaner for paint removal?

Having just read Clean Dean`s monogram removal thread reminded me of this.
The company I used to work for had a fleet of trucks with their name and some info painted on them. When they were ready to sell them, the body shop we took them to used Easy-Off oven cleaner to remove the painted on signs, then polished the area. It never seemed to cause any problems and when we bought a van from the company, I used the same process. Worked great and we never had any after effects from using it. I just sprayed it on, let it set until the sign paint softened and washed it off with car shampoo. We polished and waxed the entire van and the previous sign painted area was never a problem in the 4 years I owned it.
I`m not sure I could bring myself to use it on one of my cars today, but it sure did work then.
    :wait :wait
Note: I am NOT recommending this, just posting it for discussion!

Sounds interesting but I wonder if it would etch the CC. I guess not since you have had no problems. I do know that I got some on the outside painted area on a stove once and it eat the finish off the stove in an instant.

I had a question about this over the summer-- Our delivery truck had been `graffitied` so I busted out the oven cleaner (suggested by DC) and it worked fine. I mean the truck isn`t anything special but we needed to get it off...and it worked. I don`t think it was a CC cuz some truck paint was coming off with it, but I`m not worried about it.

Interesting. I know that Easy Off is some serious stuff though. Look what it gets out of your oven. Nice to know.

In the world of model cars, we use easy off to strip the paint off the plastic bodies. I`m pretty sure it works on enamels and acrylics, but I`ll have to check my sources to see if it does anything to lacquer. Brake fluid seems to remove all types of paint, and castrol super clean is excellent for removing enamels at full concentration.

I have heard of using oven cleaner too. I use it to remove the build-up of wood sap from me circular saw blades and it works like a charm ... However, I accidently got some on aluminum once and it dulled the finish almost like it had been sand blasted. I often thought it would work great to get off baked on brake dust, but have been afraid of ruining the wheels.

Wow .. I never heard about using Easy-Off like this. The idea of using Easy-Off on car paint scares me a little, but I`d be interested in hearing from anyone else who has used it for this purpose.

Also, which Easy-Off are we talking about? I think there are at least two types of Easy-Off oven cleaner.
    Later ......
