The Things That I Have Learned Here

Since becoming a member here at DC I would say that my talent as a detailer was good, but lacking in some areas. Mainly inside the cars more than anything.

Today the process that I use both in and out are much more refined and the PRODUCTS that I have been introduced to (thanks Poorboy) are a far cut above what I was using.

My customers have made comments about the attention to detail that I know pay and love it.

First of all, I have learned to respect the mullet. :naughty More than that I have learned that there are always new things to learn and just when you think you know what you are doing, you will be surprised by a more effective method. And I also learned that you should never underestimate what someone with a vision can accomplish. 2 years ago DC was a little board with hardly any memebers. Now it is a highly active and informative site that rivals boards with 10 times the membership. Way to go DC!

I concur with that about the board here. I do not post at any other borads only because they do not offer me anything that I cannot find here.

in no particular order, here`s my .02 .....

1. prep is EVERYTHING. Whatever you choose to put on top won`t look at good as it could if the surface wasn`t prepped properly.

2. keep an open mind .... your combo isn`t the ultimate, nor the only, combo.

3. if it looks good to YOU, go with it

4. don`t reinvent the wheel ... ask questions. Guaranteed someone else at DC has been down that road before & simply asking a question will save you some time and some $$$.

5. be a finisher, not a rougher. Take your time.

6. don`t put your watch on your car when you`re taking pics, you`ll hear about it.

If it weren`t for forums like this I would probably still be detailing cars with Armor All and Turtle Wax and still have no idea what a PC or rotary was. Dc rocks! :rockin

Quality products are developed for a reason. Prep is freaking important. Posting about promoting your company or products is wrong, as it is free advertising and should be censored. Just because its on sale doesn`t mean you have to buy it - trying to understand that! :nono. This forum has people that are extremely nice and don`t get into wars, unless there are spammers. ZAINO IS NOT THE GREATEST (sorry). Make smart decisions/reports. etc. This forum is useful, but scary on your wallet.

From one Dave to another ................... I agree! I`ve been detailing vehicles professionally full time, part time, and as an enthusiast for over 40 years. I`ve learned a tremendous amount from many people here at DC, and other sites. One of my biggest problems was being "stuck in my ways"................. that happens over the years. The internet, and places like DC make so much information available at the click of a mouse, that there`s no excuse for anyone to be "stuck in their ways"..................... of course, a little common sense still needs to prevail!

Wow! Good question. The answer is many, many things and.... still going.
I have looked at this site almost every single day since I discovered it in June.

The biggest thing I have learned here is that problems MAY be able to be fixed.
I used to think if you had a scratch on your car `whoops too bad` it`s there to stay.
Unless you want to paint your car.
Not so! Some defects are fixable or at least improvable.
Also the level of shine I am getting now I never dreamed possible.
I have always taken good care of my cars and paint (I truly am a car guy. spending way too much $$ on them over the years),
but now no longer is the meguires 3 step the best I could come up with.
That was my wax system when I found this site.
