1996 Chevrolet Beretta before & after

I originally posted this yesterday, but the system must have hiccupped...

I picked up a black 1996 Chevrolet Beretta Z-26 last night that belongs to a girlfrien of my buddy (I`d have like to have gotten the girlfriend as well :naughty )

Any how...this car only has 17,000 miles on it, but it looks like it has 217,000 miles. It originally belonged to her dad who tried to keep the miles down, but unfortunately it was left outside in the elements. The paint almost looks flat black and the rear spoiler looks like someone tried to sand it down. The good news is that when it`s wet it looks really good, so it should still be saveable.

I`ve already got an hour and a half into washing it and I haven`t even touched the body panels yet. It started to rain, and while I can do everythng else in the garage, I can`t wash in there (no QEW for this car).

Although most won`t agree, I`m doing a DAWN wash. I always use DAWN on a first-time detail on a really dirty car. I feel the strong cleaners help me get the most gunk possible off the car and minimizes the chance of any oily/dirt grunge from hanging around and getting on my pads or microfibers.

My plan after the wash is pretty simple:

    1) #83 DACP with a cutting pad, probably twice

    2) #82 SFP again, probably twice

    3) #20 Polymer Sealant (the NXT is MINE )

I haven`t decided if I`m going to put 2 coats of #20 on or follow the first coat with some #16.

The rain has stopped, so I`m going to go finish...pics to follow

    AFTER:

The spoiler is toast...I had hoped I could do something with it, but it`s too far gone...the rest of the car however...

BTW, I went ahead and used NXT topped by #16

Nice work I had one of these back in 95 it was a 94 z26 the color was called black cherry but looked like plum. The spoiler faded in about 2 years after I got it.It had white spots all over it, but the rest of the car looked good.
My biggest challenge is trying not to wash my car. Is that a problem.

PC, but I really could have used a rotary. Maybe then it wouldn`t have taken me 10 hours

Great work! Did the cut pad and #83 give you any problems with hazing?

Here`s the "teaser" pic I posted on MOL. The left side is the `before` and the right side is after one pass with DACP/cutting pad. I took about 15 minutes for each 3` x 3` section to work the DACP (basically, I rubbed the h@ll out of it). But the simple answer is no, no trace of hazing after the DACP/cutting pad combo.
