    HighLine Meter II PTG

Ok, now I`ll really show my ignorance.

Just received one of these and I`ll be goat slammed if I can figure it out. The instructions are sketchy at best for a novice.

Does anyone have any experience with it and possibly help me out?

Don`t want to clutter up this site so I can be reached at tom@tflanagan.com

    Thanks...

    Regards,
    Tom

Have one. What is the trouble? Should be able to press the metal end down on surface and reading appear. Try the calibration disks.

    Tom -
Open the back of the case by sliding the cover down and check that there is a AA battery in there correctly installed for polarity... The + positive side with the +positive side, etc...

Then as Mjlinane has said, press it down on the paint, listen for the beep, and look at the display...

Thanks guys and mjl, thanks for the pm.

Just changed the battery and it`s about the same.

Here`s the curious part...on my wife`s `13 Lexus the readout comes right up. It`s reading between 0.9 and 1.1 mil with the associated micron reading seeming to correspond. On my aluminum Jag I get three dashes and have to hit the + button to get a readout. My car`s mil reading is between about 53.4 to 54.8.

I`ve zeroed it out using the supplied discs.

That seems like a heck of a difference in paint thickness!

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Which model did you get? F, N or FN? (Should be on the box.) If it is an F, it won`t be able to do Al. Is it giving you the NFe after the Al reading?

The + button converts from micron to mil and back. (Should be indicated on the meter.)

    Otherwise, I`ve got nothing.

Fe/NF. The II supposedly reads steel and aluminum but not plastic.

Anybody wanna` buy it? Gotta` good deal for you...

    Best regards,

Glad you have it working, Tom !

Try to keep the reading in Microns - its more sensitive to changes than in Mils..

I measure Aluminum or Al-u-min-i-um in Britain, all the time and it measures just as fast as steel and will show the NFe symbol...

    You`re doing fine...

Just to be clear, the II comes in 3 models.
