Tothpaste is a mild abrasive (polish).
It works good for a lot of things like polishing light scratches out of plastic.
I haven`t tried it on water spots yet but why not?

    Water Spots

Currently, I`ve used Zaino`s glass polish with very good results.

All depending on how bad it is.

Take your PC and some Menzerna IP, FP, or DACP or whatever you have handy and a yellow pad and let it fly on a higher speed, you will remove almost everything. Used this method on my Carrera on glass and rear view mirrors etc. and it will amaze you.
It`s glass your not going to burn through it.

Sorry I wasn`t assuming you had a PC or rotary, I actually did my side mirrors with MF and Menzerna IP by hand. Try this, you will be like what the hell was I wasting all this time for.

91LSMAN, if you havent solved your water spot problems yet, try SPot-X hard water stain remover. I work at a body shop and that`s what we use, it takes alot of elbow grease, but it works great..The first time i used it I did a 4runner in about 3 hours. If you`re interested goto this website http://spot-x.com/ I think we get it from Home Depot for around $10. Go here for the directions on how to use it http://spot-x.com/Hints.htm#anchor954185

I`ve used acid on windows as well as paint many times, even on a black pre-production one off proto-type vehicle. Please elaborate on this bad learning experience of yours... what product (acid) was used, how you used it, how long it sat, what the results were, etc...
    Thanks

Of course, you coulda used ...

which woulda fixed it right up
