Products with Fillers or Masking Capablities?

I don`t condone the use of products that are designed to fill or mask. However I can certainly see where they can be useful on some jobs.

Currently I use glazes for this function in part. The one I like is PB BH decent fill and shoine when needed.

Let me explain my asking: there are jobs that I get with older cars (thin paint) that I don`t want to over polish and customers that are not willing to pay for the two or three stage polishing that might be required for a better correction.

What I do in those cases in order to turn back a good cosmetic detail, is use a glaze (filler) then top that with a good sealant and wax. My theory in this is the sealant locks in the fillers, extending the life of the look.

All that said, what are your choices in this area?

Re: Products with Fillers or Masking Capablities?

There are times when it is absolutely appropriate to use glazes to fill. I joked on another thread about the detailer`s prayer - "Grant me the power tools to correct the fixable, the fillers to cover the hopeless and the wisdom the know the difference."

To the question, I know it will surprise everyone that I use CG glazes/gloss enhancers. I recently received their Glossworkz Glaze which really looks like a winner. Haven`t tried it yet though.

Dave, I to believe that Glazes have their place in certain circumstances...

I have used PB BH and it was good. But I have also tried others as well.

CG EZ Cream - I find this to be very similar to BH in terms of filling ability and how it works. I do like EZ cream for that fact that it is Acrylic based and can be used under sealants.

CG WMF - I find this to be very oily but a very good filler. I like to use this under nuba`s only as sealants don`t work well with it IME.

Prima Amigo - This is may favorite glaze. Very similar final look and use as BH. But IME it fills much better and can actually remove some light hazing when used with the correct pad. I have found that is actually seems to work better if you apply it to the entire vehicle and then come back and buff it off. It is also great when used in combo with Prima Banana Gloss.

    Dave,

When I have customers who just want a wash and wax I often find that the car in the sun has visible swirling. I usually take Black Hole or White Diamond and go over the car before adding my lsp. I find it hides quite a bit and just presents a better finished appearance.
I like beer. On occasion I will even drink a beer to celebrate a major event such as the fall of communism or the fact that our refrigerator is still working.

I`ll have to try some of the recommendations. I would like to try White Diamond after reading about it.

Small question, how many washes would these fillers last through and do they effect the bonding features of the lsp going down on top of it.

I don`t have a good answer for this but, I top the glaze with a sealant. So the answer is as long as the sealant lasts. In my case a few months, mine are garage queens and I don`t bucket wash much mainly waterless washes here.

Black or blue foam pads but any zero cut pad should work.

Curious about this as well, especially for daily drivers. I`ve used some Meg`s glazes and they only last about a week, but I hand applied them and did not put sealants on it.

The CG (& likely P glazes are really an aio with some filling abilities and last a couple of months.

I have had good results with Wet Glaze 2.0. Originally known as Danase Wet Glaze (DWG) Wet Glaze 2.0
You can actually put down 2-3 coats of Wet Glaze 2.0 and then put a sealant and/or wax on top of it.
In my case, for enhanced gloss, I have applied it on top of my LSP before heading out to a car show.

"Wet Glaze 2.0 is made with acrylic polymers that form a very strong bond to the vehicles surface..."

"The polymers also allow Wet Glaze 2.0 to do something that you can`t even think about doing with other
glazes, they allow it to be topped with a wax or sealant without any bonding or application issues."

With clear coats getting thinner and only having so much of it its impractical to do a correction every time you get a scratch on your car. Fillers or glazes do have a place.

I had never used a glaze before but I had a friend put a glaze on my car for a car show and it really added something extra to the look.

I may get a glaze just to use when I want to hide some light swirls or can`t polish them because of time. The EZ cream sounds interesting as does the wet glaze 2.0
