The threads about work platforms focus mainly on the 20" tall Werner platform at Lowe`s or Home Depot. I need one that`s at least 3 feet tall with folding legs. Any leads? Thanks.

I guess you need a way add 16-in to the Werner if you cannot find a larger one. I bet it would cost much more.

The Need to Bead
I have a platform, a folding step, plus 2 step stools and none are over 20". The only idea I have is a Little Giant ladder (as seen on TV, but now more widely available). Supposedly you can separate them into 2 small ladders and buy an optional platform to put between the two. I have a Little Giant ladder but have never purchased the work plank accessory.

Agreed, I have the same.... you can also get an aluminum platform made by Werner at many home improvement stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) which still works with the Little Giant ladders.
Not a cheap way to go, but the ladder is extremely versatile and of good quality.

You need to go to a industrial type store ( heavy equipment, painting etc ). They should have something that might work you your needs.

The one I got at HD, has legs that fold and extend. I recently had to extend full height to do a Suburban. I`m 5`8"

Here is an example of the best one I have ever seen. X-Deck Safety Work Platform | Hybrid Ladder Scaffold | Scissor Lift | SafeTec I dont know how much these cost, but thinking if I ever wanted a platform that goes over 3` tall down to 18" tall, is totally stable, and folds up, this would be the one I will buy next.
I have the Werner and after several years of use on hundreds of SUV`s, I am getting worried about the rivets getting more loose. Its non adjustable and is only 21" tall.

Hey Al, how do you get to the center of your hood on the pickup?
I was looking at the Little Giant with a platform to go between, but my wife would kill me if I brought 2 more ladders into the garage, packed as it is now. Bobcat, I saw that Werner one online but can`t get a price on it; is that the one that weighs 75 lbs?
Dan those Xdeck setups start at ~$700 and go up from there. Maybe a heavy equipment type store would have something as mentioned, and I`m looking in the paper for auctions of scaffolding.
This is a problem for a weekend detailer of his own cars like me. I`ll keep searching and if I find something that fits the bill I`ll post it here. Thanks for your replies everyone.

I emailed them and the VP Chris Seaman emailed me back, LTW version, which has a 300lb capacity is $397.44 I believe. If I were going to buy one for the first time, and needed it to get the tops of big-A tall SUV`s centers of hoods, etc., this is the one I would save for. It looks way more stable and believe it has a hand rail that is detachable that comes with it.
You are correct, the heavy duty version is a lot more, but the guy said that Detailers buy the LTW version cause it`s less expensive

Just to clarify, the Little Giant "system" is just 1 ladder. You separate the one ladder to make 2 "A frames". Now that they are more widely available, the pricing is much less than when I originally purchased mine back when they were primarily sold at special events ie. home and garden shows etc., before the informercials. They are a great ladder for homeowners, very versatile and very stable.

You can now find Little Giant ladders at Sears and sam`s Club. The folding platform from Griots also has expandable legs.
Thanks Dan, I didn`t see that LTW version on the website. I`ve also not seen the Little Giant system, good to know it`s only 1 ladder. I`ve been looking at the Griot`s Paul, and thinking it`s a versatile tool that can be used all around the house. Thanks for your replies everyone.

Glad to help !
I didnt know about the Griot`s platform, it looks really nice too, and has a power strip under it, so that could also be a good thing. The price way reasonable compared to anything else, Ill bet. Folds, doesnt take up a lot of space, can be hung on a wall hook Ill bet... The legs extend way higher than the Werner too. This might be the deal of the day ! I think they have a special going on right now....
Good luck with this !
Dan F
Yeah that one has legs that extend from 21" to 31", nonslip platform & other useful features. Costs $150 presently but it won`t be available for a couple more weeks, plus shipping may be an extra cost. Here`s a link:
