    E-gads Egg!!

I have an .02 Chevy pickup lined up this week that had an egg throwen on the hood. The guy was smart enough to wash off the next day, then ran it threw a car wash to make sure to get it all off. I`ve not seen the truck yet but he tells me that you can still see the areas where the egg was at.

I figured that its eatten threw some of the clear.

Question is am I going to wet sand to get out or compound with a rotary?

Not done a car with egg on it before so I`m a bit lost at the moment.

    Thanks

you`ll have to play it by ear Dave...how long it was before he noticed will come into play...eggs are nasty stuff to a paint finish.... go with the standard least agressive appraoch and be prepared for sanding and rotary use:dunno

That`s what I thought to Steve, its raining today so I`m going to go have a look at the truck, to get an idea about the damage. This is a real good customer and this truck is a beater for him. His regular ride is a light blue rag top Porsche that I get 6 times a year or better.

Good luck on it Dave. Hopefully since it washed within a day, it wouldn`t have done much damage. Keep us up on it!

You might notice a pattern where the shell exploded and went through to the primer...eggings can be nasty to try and clean up, usually if it is thrown pretty hard the shell seems to cut right into the primer in the pattern it exploded. usually touch up paint/wetsanding routine in like a million areas is needed.
Hopefully its not that bad in your case though!

Think of it as a very small (but sharp) rock. Don`t forget that when it first hits the car, it has the full weight & momentum of the egg behind it...which is a lot more force that a similar sized stone kicked up by a vehicle in front of you.

Well here is the bad news, yesterday I went to look at the truck, he did not get all the egg off and its pretty bad, a wet sand is in order. I`m not sure that`s going to do it either. This stuff is pasted on the hood. I`m going to get the truck tomorrow Tuesday as the weather here is still raining

Well here is the up date, I went to look at the hood and took some supplies along to remove the egg and see what the damage is. The egg was baked on to the hood and splattered all over. I used Dawn with a super soft brush and that lifted the egg off, with some elbow grease. Then by hand only I used aggressive cut compound, then a light cut polish, and finished with PB P-w-C again all by hand. You can still see that the clear coat was etched but not as bad as I thought. I`m going to bring it back to my place later this week. I`m going to wet sand a couple of areas, then use the rotary to finish up. It looks alot better with the hand application. Here are a coupld of pics sorry there is no sun today and the truck was parked in a car port
