The problem with other detailing sites

Web sites like Meguiars and mothers and several other discourage you from talking about other products.

While I can understand it and I would probably do the same but those who depend on those sites for info will miss out on a lot of good products.

I use different brands depending on what I`m trying to accomplish.

For me no one brand has the best of everything.

I salute Troy for allowing open discussion on DC.

That`s the goal. It`s not my favorite thing to see but I understand in order for us to be an open discussion forum it`s necessary. Just do me (and this forum) a favor and keep our sponsors happy.

Having threads talking about how you think expensive wax is unnecessary isn`t gonna be to healthy for this forum.

I agree as i do like to use a range of different products. I love the fact that u can give a review of a certain product to help other fellow detailers out there to make a good or bad decision easier.

The sites that are run by Megs, Mothers and the likes of those are very specific about what you can talk about...I don`t post on those...DC is much different this site seems to talk about process and product....I know that we are here to support the sponsors and should...but that dosen`t stop us from talking about something that we found OTC, or online..its the one thing that I have liked about this site from day one!

Re: The problem with other detailing sites

I think DC has a different personality. I see DC less dominated by these mega-detailers and less commercial (looking for ad clicks or sponsors, etc) driven, etc than some other well known forums. I have seen groups (clique of friends) move depending on how situations are handled (spamming, etc).

I can think of one forum owner that wonders how they can build traffic as if that happens by itself. It is not like you create it and they just come.

The chat room helps DC and it is because we are not always talking about detailing. The funny part is trying to follow more than 3 threads with about 6 to 7 people.

Re: The problem with other detailing sites

What made me start this thread was a guy on MOL ask how to make the trim on the exterior of his car look better and everyone said Meguiars trim restore.
I wanted to tell him that he should try PB-TR but I knew that would go over like a lead balloon so I did not post.

That is what is so great about DC is you can give your honest opinion of different products.

I use several Meguiars products but I don`t just use one brand for everything I think that NO one brand has the best of everything.

Until recently I had not used PB-TR but after reading so many good things about it on DC I bought it and it is now my favorite product for trim.

I tried DG products a few years ago and I like and use AW for all kinds of LSP this looks good over sealant or wax.

I read how long someone gets from a wax when they use AW after every wash I think it was the AW not the wax that got them the durability.

For what it is for AW is hard to beat just like S&W can`t be beat for it`s intended use.

Everyone has a few products that really stand out.
Thats my story and I`m sticking to it.

I have to disagree with you on that point, MOL has very strict rules that do not allow you to bash another companies products. Of course all of the members are diehard Meg`s users and will recommend Meg`s products for any situation. That doesn`t mean that they are the best. I use mostly Meg`s stuff because I can find it locally and don`t have to give out my CC# to web sites or people I talk on the phone to. My cars are far from perfect like most I see on this site, but they still look better than most I see around. I think Troy runs a great forum here and will continue to visit!
