traffic paint overspray removal

I have a detail that I am doing this weekend.
The owners car was parked in her apartment complex and the town was doing some maintenance on a windy day. So there was some light overspray on her front end. I was able to remove it on a test spot on the paint with some clay and polish. But it will take some time to do the whole area like that. Any suggestions to speed up my process? (I was thinking about mineral spirits) Also she has it on her grill, so would the mineral spirits be safe to use on that as well?

I think you should be ok with the mineral spirits and I don`t think it should effect the grill at all, as long as you follow the same process as on the paint...

Thats to bad about the car, they should complain to the town and show them what they did and the cost to have it taken care of...

I would use mineral spirits on the painted areas and on the chrome part of the grill. As for the plastic part of the grill if you used spirits on that it would turn a white color. Kinda like wax stained trim. The only problem is you wouldn`t be able to fix it. the damage is permanent. I would stick with the clay on those areas.

I did one much worse than this and if its been on the car for a while it can be a bear to remove...I used lacquer thinner but that`s very aggressive...it will dull the clear a little but can be rubbed out with some SSR or any other SWR...I used my rotary for this...do not get any of it on the plastic parts it eats the finish...don`t ask

After I did this one someone suggested mineral spirits as a solution and since then that`s what I have been using...your going to need and let if set in place for a while so that it loosens up the paint...then wash off with soapy water and rinse. Then I would clay to pickup the rest...then you are going to need to polish...On the plastic parts the MS will be the only thing that will safely remove it...

Yeah Dave, yours is by far worse than what I am dealing with. It`s pretty much just specks like I showed but it`s all over the place...ugh
I`ll give the mineral spirits a shot. I`ll put up the results this weekend.
