    Question Floormat wear?

The thread about the "Heel Hole" in a floor mat got me wondering a little.

Is this a big problem for a lot of people?

The only mats I ever felt I really needed to replace were the ones in my Astro van. In 14 years and 165,000+ miles, I purchased one set to replace the originals that didn`t look as good as I thought they should. I also replaced the mats in my wife`s 5 year old Baretta when we sold it since they were the only things that showed any wear on the entire vehicle. We`ll probably do the same thing when we sell the Grand Prix.
My vehicles don`t really get abused, but they do get used. They are driven year round in whatever mud, salt slop, sand that Iowa roads can deliver. Age is usually anywhere from 5 years to 14 years with mileage from 35,000 to 165,000. Most are in the 120K+ range when I get rid of them and the mats are not bad although no longer looking new. I do try to vacuum them whenever they are dirty and probably use Meg`s APC+ weekly when I do a wash.
How long does it take you to have mats showing lots of wear?

You mean your Grand Prix doesn`t have that hole? I know of several GP`s with that issue. I have a big ol` black spot where the floormat has been worn away.

Not yet, but it`s only 6 years old and the mileage is only about 53,000.
FWIW, I did buy a set of Pontiac rubber mats with the GP logo for winter use.
Had them in the car for 2 weeks and sold them. Just much preferred the carpet mats. The fact that the car interior is grey and the rubber nats were black probably had a bearing on my choice. I have considered trying the Weather-Tech mats since they are available in a grey color.
The Astro van did have a worn spot at about the 10 year mark so I ordered new OEM carpeted mats for it and kept the old ones for winter use. It never did wear a hole though.

I bought the Weather Tech winter mats for the Envoy. They are nice and heavy. Of course, we moved to Texas one year later and I have no use for them anymore.
