    It Came Today

Well my Hitachi rotary and flexible backing plate came in today!

My car wasn`t clean, but I quickly QD`d a couple of areas so I could practice. Considering I`ve never used a rotary before, I think my first outing was a success. I used a finishing pad and PO106FF starting at ~800 rpm and then at ~1200 rpm. The finish was smooth, clear, and free of holograms.

Overall, the rotary was easy to use, but it seemed to "tug" a little when moving the same direction it spins. How can I minimize this?

Glad you got your rotary Zane...not a bad deal..I love mine...
Zane I sprayed some QD on the pad and seemed to stop the tugging..just to prime the pad..I used edge Classic 6" pads and Meg`s DA pads..seem to be more controllable..

some others will chime in also to what helps them...

I have to do my buddies boat in Sept.when he pulls it from the water..so that will be the real test for the Hitachi..

Anyways..glad you got in the deal before the price change..

    Looks great!!
Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"
Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."

    Sweet!

Zane -Check your work in full sun. Holograms can be difficult to spot under the lights.

I suspect the "tug" is from steering the rotary like a PC (i.e. you`re extending your arms back and forth, and throwing the machine off balance).

    Re: It Came Today

I washed the car this morning and got some more practice in with the rotary.

The process was pretty similar - PO106FF with finishing pad at 1200 rpm.

I`m starting get a much better feel for the machine and how to "move" it.

The rotary moves allot different than a PC but with practice that will get better with the tugging part I mean...remember to keep the pad clean as you move around the car...I use a MF towel to wipe off with a little spray of water...helps allot on the tugging part...and extra product build-up

Spur the pad with an old toothbrush every panel you do, it will take off the old product buildup. IMO using the rotary cannot be taught 100%, you just have to put your time in practicing and experimenting.
