Re: How to restore heavily oxidized black plastic trim?

Lonnie- THANK YOU for posting the link to that great 2014 test, I`d somehow missed it. (I note that my fave UTTG+ did OK).

One thing that I don`t believe ever got tested was using the UTTG+ over/after Solution Finish. That might be worth investigating as I`ve used various preps for UTTG+ with good results and since it works on surfaces where I would`ve have expecte success, well...maybe that would be good for some cases of neglected trim.

They had a specific version that was made for wheels. That was several years ago. I think they`ve been bought by Rustoleum since then.

    Ah, OK...thanks.

Rustoleum is another brand that`s upped its game a bit, used to be about the last paint company I`d look to, but some of their stuff is OK.

I like both Krylon and Rustoleum. They’re easy paints to coat evenly without running.

About to try the SF on the faded plastics on a 2016 CRV, any updates as far as the coating on top of the SF? Or the coating in lieu of it?

    Thanks

Wolfgang or Dlux would be my choices.

Get yourself some solution finish and their over the top sealant. Don’t coat trim that needs restoration. Chris covers it all here.

Re: How to restore heavily oxidized black plastic trim?

I have to join the SF bandwagon. I got some for Christmas last year and have been using it a few times. I even tried it on brand new trim and it really made it more black, in a good way. Now I have to try Wipe New for over it.

This category is so full of overhyped under delivering products with over the top promises. Solution Finish really delivers.

Re: How to restore heavily oxidized black plastic trim?

I`ve been using Carpro Dlux for this task for a number of years and had nothing but great and long-lasting results.

I bought some of the Wipe New stuff last year. The bottle had literally turned to jelly and had to be thrown away. Rust-o-leum reimbursed me 100%. I then tried to buy more, and nobody appeared to have bottles, only pre-packaged wipes available. I ended up buying a box of the wipes, but it`s still sitting in the basement.

    Dlux FTW !
