    Oops!!

    I think I messed up
Touched up some scratches last fall with dealer touch-up
Put it on too thick where it was sitting above the paint last fall
Today I taped around the scratch and wet sanded with 1500 grit
Looked fine then I used 3” LC orange pad with jescar correcting compound
Looked much better so Then I used jescar micro-finishing on LC 3”yellow pad and now I have this
Have I went through the clear? I don’t know enough about it to tell what is going on
    Was on 3 or 4 with GG6
Not worried too much about the scratches above the light colored area
I should’ve just got the Dr colorchip and went that route
    Too late now
    Damn shade tree detailer
Does it look fixable besides re-painteq

Looks like you exposed the base coat since it`s dull looking.

Yup, been there, done that. Such a miserable feeling but sometimes ya learn more from mistakes than ya do successes.

The thing to remember with lacquer touch-up is you can just wipe it out with lacquer thinner and re-do it. I`ve also been successful at leveling out blobs a bit with a cloth or paper towel dampened with thinner, which is pretty much the Langka method, if not the Dr. Colorchip which is a little more of squeegee method...of course I`ve never done Dr. Colorchip but I did buy some squeegees from them...which I have never used...yet.

Unfortunately it looks like you went through the clear as it gets dull like that. I’ve done it too. It always seems to happen when working on spot repairs. I’m not sure of a way to repair it besides a repaint.

    Re: Oops!!

You could try putting clear nail polish over it. Not sure how long that would last though.

You would do that before clear touchup paint, or Optimum ClearCoat Restorer?

I don’t have a clue as what to do
If somebody has been down this road and used a product that helped and how to apply the product I’m all ears

    Re: Oops!!

I want to say there was a member here maybe 10 years ago that had a goldish...Maxima? In San Diego, that had CC failure on the front fenders, and he prepped it and sprayed 2K rattle can clear over it and it came out pretty good. Of course I could have that all wrong.

I`d check with a body shop, maybe you can just get that door re-cleared for $2-300, if they don`t have to do anything but mask, scuff, and spray.

Alternatively this might be a good experiment for the Optimum ClearCoat Restorer, although that seems to have the same nasty isocyanates as 2K clear.

    Re: Oops!!

Fishroes- That looks identical to the only damage I`ve ever done to b/c with a polisher (a PC with a mild combo no less). I was gonna have the area reshot anyhow, and AFAIK that`s the only proper fix.

Same ol` same ol` when it comes to this kind of work, just so easy for a little problem to turn into a major "oops!". Sorry it happened to you.

    Re: Oops!!

Check with and I hate saying this, the dealership. They have people that fix these things all the time. My guy does this at the dealership and has my clients stop there when he’s in the same area. See if they’ll give you the information. You need paint work, if the rest of the vehicle is that nice, don’t short cut it.
