Burnt rubber on quarter panels, what do drag racers do?

I am trying to find an easier solution for my occasional track visits. I use 3m adhesive remover after each visit, otherwise I basically go through a clay bar after each visit. There has to be a better solution besides taping off your quarter panels. I just picked up some opti gloss coat, but I would hate to apply it and have to re apply after every race. My car is currently a garage queen is use p21s, mainly because I like the look. I am looking for suggestions for something to prep for the track and what to use after without having to do a full detail session.

Re: Burnt rubber on quarter panels, what do drag racers do?

this is what I used to do but once the poorboys bug mesh towels came out I have one for this duty and replaced the bug sponge as it takes a few minutes to soak and the towel is just easier

Pinnacle Safe Scrub Pad vs Burnt Rubber

the cosmic high gloss hellcat I did with all the polish angel stuff tracks his car almost every weekend and I also gave him one of those poorboys bug mesh towels and super slick and suds and he uses them. I`d imagine he may have ran out of the 4oz of soap I gave him already so he`s probably using another soap but he said that towel is very helpful.

My advice to you if you decide to buy those towels is to go ahead and get a six pack because you`re gonna love them and maybe even want to give one to a buddy in need.

I couldn`t find them on the Autopia site anymore (unless I missed it) but you should call Autopia to buy them that way they will realize they took them off the website.

edit: also I have found that if you go to the coin op on the way home from the track and spray a little bit of bug squash on that area and then hit it with high pressure water you will release most of it (assuming you have a decent protection under there to begin with- I like to add a thick spray of optiseal to that area before I leave for the track

I realize this may all be excessive but I enjoy the easy cleanup and have had to Ron (toss) many a micros because they picked up a little piece of rubber

We have found that Bug Squash undiluted will take the burnt rubber off without disturbing the paint and also sponsor stickers if they are present ..

I use road wrap from amazon, its like saran wrap but for cars, there is also a spray called burnout guard you apply 2 lights coats before racing just make sure it dries good then take micro fiber an detailer and wipe clean. The best thing I have found is road wrap on rear quarter`s and throw it away before I leave track and now use burnout guard in wheel wells.

Long ago and far away we always wiped the lower quarters with plain old vaseline PJ. Rubber (even hot) doesn`t make it through to the paint and it washes off fairly easy with warm/hot water, maybe a little shampoo or dawn

    YMMV

Old school, real old school here but we used to mask the quarters with blue painters tape. It wasn`t pretty but it was effective. Never had to worry about getting rubber off of the rear quarter. Of course we were going in a straight line and only had to consider the rear quarter. I`m sure a road course puts rubber in a lot more places.

I am glad that someone finally said this. Seems like the most paint protective solution.
