Soap In The Sun

This whole idea started for me after watching this Adam`s video where he says it`s better to let the soap sit on the car in the sun. Maybe I need to rethink things.

heres what i sometimes do in the direct sun (1-6pm in my driveway)

take it for what its worth...wash roof windows and a to c pillars...basically top half

dry all those areas

wash hood and top of doors/fender areas/trunk or top rear hatch on suv, dry hood and trunk

rinse then wash remaing vertical panels (doors usually handle down and below beltline)

rinse then dry , now all vehicle is washed and dry and no chance for it to even dry with water spots

it does require a little common sense when rinsing off the areas after you dry roof, and sometimes i get water on there but its not the same amount as intentionally

now i prefer to wash vehicles before 11 and just do it without direct sun but it doesnt always work out that way

thats when ill employ that method if its a large vehicle like truck or suv

Rent a Culligan DI tank like I do. It`ll save you a TON of headaches!

i figured youd ask so i posted said method after that

hey im not saying my method is the best, but it works for me, I can even add a claybar step with soapy clay mitt if I feel like it but i prefer to do that after i wash with just clay lube

Also I should add that that method I was referring to is mainly used for those initial vehicles I detail because they tend to not bead/sheet very well

I could see leaving the soap on there and then rinsing it off if there was some good LSP on the vehicle but I just wouldn`t trust it (on veh w/no lsp) without a pressure washer and I have no pw

DI is awesome. Used it for first time this past weekend. It wasn`t hot, mid 60`s, but it was sunny. My wife`s all black murdered out Durango was water spot free. Used Meguiars soap and wax combo (the yellow stuff), rinsed the whole car first, do a section, rinse, move on. Even the glass was spot free. Once most of the water was gone, did a final dry using Griots Best of Show Detail spray (the new stuff). Looked great.

Same process on my bright blue 3 series. I am sold on DI.

the cost of the DI system always seems to deter me..but I do have some tax $ coming in (just filed today)

I wake up early to wash the cars to avoid the heat. The sun hits me all day until the late afternoon. I wash with Poorboys SSS most of the time and have not had an issue. I do wash 1 panel at a time and rise in between being careful to keep the wile car wet to avoids water spotting. Then I dry with a master blaster.

Me too. I get up at 5:30 am five days a week. No way I`m getting up early on the weekends.

Of course the Friday/Saturday night Jack and Diets don`t help.

im usually up the same time very day regardless of weekend of not. if I have a vehicle to detail on the weekend i`ll try to get them to drop off at 8am or even earlier so I can get it washed before the sun gets very high in the sky

you`re problem is the asperteme in the diets, lol

I want to send those kids some stuff, but I doubt they would appreciate all the Chemical Guys crap I would be sending them. Would Autopia put together a care package if we sent them some money. Kind of like a Go Fund it project. Or Poor Boys? I would donate $50 or more. It`s the shipping that adds up.

I think they would appreciate any products ... yes the shipping can add up but it can be sent parcel post as it`s in no hurry at all.

i wish there were programs like this all over the US and World to give kids an opportunity to not only stay out of trouble but to learn a skill that can be used anywhere ..

We do automotive repairs, painting, custom work, detailing and things of that nature for kids interested in the automotive trade. Part projects have been turning a truck into an electric, custom painting a chopper, building a tow truck from a pickup I donated, etc. Because we receive no funding, all our tools, parts, consumables, etc. are either donated or purchased using whatever funds we raise doing repairs, painting, detailing or things of that nature. If it were possible could you send us any detail products? Maybe old inventory, stuff that you can`t sell for whatever reason, samples, anything really helps because our supplies are mostly what I have brought in to use/donated and would love to be able to give the kids some quality products to use.
