Lets hear your answer on these Q`s????

These questions were on another forum with no replies. Let`s hear your answer.

    ****In Reference to ALUMINUM Wheels****

Question 1: What is the difference between clear coated and "naked" rims?
    (kinda easy)
Question 2: (the one I know MANY want to know)
HOW do you tell the difference between the 2 BEFORE you start to detail so you know what chemicals to use?

1- Naked rims would be ones with bare metail- bare aluminum wheels. Other wheels can be painted, chromed, powdercoated, cleared, etc. The cleared wheels have a clear coat to protect it whereas the `naked` wheel needs polishing to kee[ it looking good.

2- It can be difficult to tell without doing a test. With some ecperience IMO you can tell a difference between CC wheels and bare aluminum. Generally the cleared ones won`t fade and would have similarities to regular clear coat on the vehicle. Bare aluminum can be distinguished becuse it has begun to dull or fade. When the bare aluminum wheels are polished it gets a bit trickier. Also with the clear, with a trained eye you may be able to see the thickness of the clear on the wheel to tell if it is protected or not. Once you detail, if your applicator turns black- uncoated aluminum.

That`s what my answers would be...

    this is easy....

coated rims were the ones that didn`t turn "etched white" when sprayed with wheel acid. :lol

    All kidding aside....

Another way to tell is using your fingernail -- if you press your thumbnail directly into the rim, it will leave a slight indentation or mark on the painted/coated rims.
