Major swirl marks, first time PC use.

    Hi all.

I am taking a break from working on my car and thought I would pose a few questions.

I am using Menzerna IP with an Orange pad. The swirl marks seem to go away but I`m left with scratch marks still. These appear to be remnants of the swirls deepest marks. I am not sure if maybe I am not applying it long enough or with enough pressure or maybe I should go to the yellow pad? Please give me some tips on what to do. I used IP maybe 4 pass on my hood then 1xFinal Polish then 1xFinishing Glaze, 1x FMJ and it looked good but this seems quite excessive.

Second question is how do you handle the tight spots? Are these done by hand? Like the mirrors and door handles? Front bumper is quite elaborate and may need to be done by hand also.

    Thanks for any input!

Frosty, it sounds as though you are using a lite cut pad (try to use type vs. color) which could be leaving the marring. Try using a polishing pad that should reduce marring that you might be getting from the pad.
Sorry that I can not comment on the product usage but I haven`t used the Menzerna line.

    Good Luck

Sorry. The actual name of the pad is:

    6-1/2 " C.P. Orange Power Pad

I will just go over the area once with this power pad and menzerna IP then switch to White Polishing Pads with Final Polish.

I had the same problem with my dark blue buick. Steve suggested i use the LC polishing pad with a more aggressive SSR.But before you try another method wait for others who have experience with the products you have at your disposal.

I do not have any experience with the product you are using however you should not be applying pressure with the PC other than the weight of the machine itself let the pad do the work. Also what speed are you using and how long did you go at it with the product. You need to remember that the product begins working once some heat starts to get generated. Also after using a aggressive pad like the orange it will most likely be required to then go to the white polishing pad and another product with less abrasive such as Poorboy SSR1.

I am sure others will also chime in that have used this product. And like Joe said maybe wait until someone that has used that particular product chimes in.

Look at this thread -it should answer a lot of questions.

Report back if you have more questions.

Do you have any pictures of the defects that you are trying to remove?

If you are trying to level down a scratch, IP and an orange pad will do the trick. If you`re trying to remove swirls in the paint, then FPII and a polishing pad will take care of it that majority of the time. Sometimes it requires more than one pass.

    Frosty,
What is the vehicle you are working on?
What has been the previous care of vehicle?
What other pad and product combinations have you tried?
