    Winter is a coming...

The weather is starting to get mighhty cold up here in Montreal. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to make sure my paint doesn`t chip that bad with all the sand, ice and salt they put on our roads..... stupid winter.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You could cover the front of the car in Blue Painter`s tape. I`ve actually seen this done by tuners who need to drive their cars long distances to shows, it`s really cheap, it holds (mostly) and your paint won`t chip, crack, or get dirty. On the other hand it`s ugly and temporary. My actual advice would be to put a bunch of sealant on there followed (if you want) by a coat or two of carnauba. This won`t protect against chips but it will make the paint a whole lot easier to keep looking nice come spring. For more permanent chip protection some 3M clear bra film would work great.

yes a clear bra would be thee best way to prevent what you`re talking about. You can buy it pre cut for your vehicle or pay a pretty penny to have it professionally installed.

I was quoted about 500 for my BMW ..I passed.

The blue tape is also used at track days for bikes and cars. They tape the headlights and markerlights so they dont brake.

How about a black vinyl bra? or just the half bra .

    Re: Winter is a coming...

I hear what you`re saying....I`m in Nova Scotia. I just clayed the car...followed that with touch up ScratchX, then colorX yesterday....put 2 coats of crystal glo sealant on today. I will now start packing on the Insulator wax tomorrow then do a coat every wash till i can`t stand the cold anymore. Hopefully 6-8 coats...this should carry through the winter for sure. Insulator wax rocks!!!!! As for chips and stuff....keep the car in the garage Joking, but it`s almost impossible up here in the far north.. don`t ya hate when the polar bears and sled dogs jump up on the doors.....haha. I`m sure our friends down south will relate.....not

Well, there is no point in trying to sheild my front end this winter... I got stuck behind a pair of dump trucks full of gravel on the way to my cottage and now I have a nice salt and pepper theme on my hood, fender and bumper :censored: . WTV, i`ll get it repainted in the spring.
