fleet rates!

OK help! here`s my situation......

I`ve been detailing in the retail market since I started, you know, cars, pickups, suvs.... but I have never had to price out a fleet job. It is an equipment rental company with 6 full size pickups and 4 flat bed trailer cabs, not the big 18 wheeler rigs, just the regular 2 seater freight type cabs.

Here`s what they want.....

They`re all white. They get muddy, but nothing a good pressure wash can`t handle. They want them done quarterly. It`s just me, so obviously I can`t do them all in a day, which isn`t a problem, we were going to work out some sort of rotation schedule. As far as detailing goes, I`m thinking basic.... wash, dry, vacuum, wipe down interior, dress wheels trim and dash, clean windows, and a spray wax.

Now the pickups will take between 1-1.5 hr each, and I`m thinking at least $65-75 each. The big cabs probably $100-$120 and around 2-2.5 hr each (if they want me to pressure wash the flat bed trailers also, that will add time and money)

My other thought was to do the job by the hour. Around a $40-45 hr rate. I`m figuring on and 8-10 hr day. they both have there + and -. If I do them faster than what I`m allowing, per truck would be the way to go. If I`m totally off on my time calculations then obviously hourly would be the better choice. One other development is I`ll be using there water and electricity so I have to figure that in. I know it will cost them pennies but they asked me to work it in to the quote.

well there you have it. sorry if I drove any of you crazy with all this..... I`m very confident with my detailing skills.... it`s the business end I`m still learning. Any help would be really appreciated.

I don`t consider 10 trucks quarterly a fleet. But i normally knock off 25% for fleets.

I would consider 10 trucks quarterly a fleet. For me, time based jobs for fleets are 25% less; product heavy jobs are 10% (I have one product that costs me $40-$50/car no matter what--only so much room to move there).

time wise you like about right per vehicle(1.5 & 2.5). remember work truck are RARELY treated good by employees. you will have coffee all over the console, garbage under the seat etc. i wouldn`t charge per hour because you can`t make as much money that way in my eyes. the company may be concerned about you wasting time as they have no clue what a good cleanup takes to do. everyone thinks they can do it faster or better for less than an experienced detailer.(till they try and you point out what they missed.) i would stick with the flat fee. you may find a couple trucks take you 45 mins to 1 hour. if you charge by the hour you just lost $30.00 from your price structure. good luck.

do you think 100-120 is fair for the trailer cabs?

do you mean a full size pick up with a flat bed on the back or cube attachment. if a flat bed, yes. if a cube up it to $150.00.

yeah it`s a flatbed, not box but the cab is not a pickup it`s a 3 ton cab.

i would go 120-150, if they are going to take longer then a normal pcik up.
