Soft Water Question

We recently moved into a new subdivision and the water seems to be softer than where we used to live (moved about 20 minutes north of the other home). We are in a different water district than before. I noticed after washing the car a lot of water spots and kind of haze on the paint. Using a chamios I wiped down the car which removed the spots and haze. When I was squeezing out the chamios, I noticed that the water appeared to sud up a little. I was sure that the car was completely rinsed before drying.

I have never dealt with soft water (if that is what it is) so was looking for any insight. For reference, I moved to Tomball, TX which is a little north of Houston proper.

well water spots only come from hard water. so im guessing you might have harder water then before. instead of a chamios try using a waffle weave MF towel instead it might dry faster then you will have less water spots.

Got the water tested and it is soft (1 grain, whatever that means). My guess is that it is mineral deposits. More investigation I guess.

The spots you had are probably caused by sodium (salt) in the softened water. The water softener is supposed to remove minerals through ion exchange (replacing calcioum and magnesium ions with sodium ions).

Spots from softened water are generally much easier to remove than spots from hard water.

Soft water is a very very good problem to have. It will leave spots on dark colors because of the tds. An eazy fix would be to buy a merlin ro system and hook it up thru you main water line. You can find one for around $300 if you google. And you would have perfect water in your entire house.
