Bad Combo today. Your thoughts needed

    Hello everyone!

I had to detail my sisters car today.. for free.. bummer. My process was as follows.

    NXt wash
    PwC
    BSG
    UPP

I was really frustrated with the way nothing went right in this combo!! the surface was left very oily and everything was hard to buff off. I finally gave up and will give it some TLC tommarow. I can think of a few reasons that this could have gone wrong. Does BSG have difficulty with a base of PwC due to the carnauba? also BSG contains oils.. duh.. its a glaze.. so UPP might have not bonded well to that. I think the plan went downhill after applying the UPP to the BSG.

    YOur thoughts?

    What is BSG?
By the way your describing it sounds like a glaze loaded with oils. Thats probably why the UPP didn`t bond to it. PwC is pretty friendly i`ve topped with other things and not have had problems. Maybe you have 1 too many light polishes in that combo?

BSG is Adams Brilliant Spray Glaze. I top it all the time but the UPP didnt cooperate with me. FWIW i let the UPP sit for about an hour.

    Did you clay?

Have you acid/neutralized your MF`s? (ie: soak with apc and distilled white vinegar and hot water in the washer) This could leave everything to streak.

You should be using a sealant friendly polish like SSR1 > UPP or AIO > UPP or FPII > UPP. The PWC > BSG is a waste IMO...I`d do PWC then Natty`s or add a step before PWC like an SSR.

    Hope this helps.

I wouldnt think that the UPP would have a problem bonding to BSG because some have use it successfully with VM glaze but different products react differently. Maybe try not using the PwC and see how it turns out or maybe u just didnt buff the glaze enough. Let us know how everything turns out.

I keep trying to give BSG the benefit of the doubt, but I keep finding it very, very finicky to use. Maybe I have a bad bottle or something, but on some cars I can`t get it to buff off right. I still keep attributing it to user error because I would hate to give up on it, but at some point I just gotta wonder what`s up.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.

I have been using the BSG for quite a while. I would say i have used it on about 10 cars with no problems at all. I wonder if temps are playing a big deal with its setting up and buff off abilty. It was about 75 in the garage yesterday and i was breaking sweat. I guess I learned the lesson about this combo. I have acouple cars this weekend. Ill let you all know how the BSG works.
