    What`s With This Pollen ????

Are we having an unually bad pollen season this year or am I just paying more attention? Granted, for a bunch of years, I didn`t even wash my car so I probably didn`t pay attention to any yellow pollen accumulation. Plus, my car for most of that time was gold colored so pollen didn`t stand out.

But the last few days, it`s been unreal here in the NY metro area. My mother`s black Camry -- OK, granted it needs a cleaning and it stays outside overnight -- looks like it has light yellow paint on the roof and hood. Even dad`s silver Mitsubishi Galant, though it hides dirt and dust, shows some yellow. My grey-ish Civic? Let it stay outside just 1 night while visiting my sister and even with 3 coats of SG and 2 coats of EX-P the stuff was sticking enough for me to see a very thin coating on the roof.

And when I was detailing my sister`s car the other day, during the time I`m working on it the damn yellow stuff was accumulating as I detailed. I`m talking about over 6-8 hours...I was doing the inside, and the outside is going to pot. Heck, last fall when I first started detailing I`d let the cars stay overnight and when I resumed the next day, the dust/dirt/pollen/whatever was minimal. A few specks here and there, but the whole surface of the car didn`t have enough accumulation to cover 1/2 an applicator. Now, I`m getting whole panels (hood, roof, trunk) getting "snowed" on.

Anyone else (esp. in the NY metro area) read up about any abnormal pollen levels this year as opposed to previous years?

I know I`m not in the same area as you Honda, but IMHO the pollen this year has been awful down here. I don`t know what the reasoning is, and it`s not just because I am paying more attention to it than I normally do. I don`t think you`re crazy - at least not about this anyway. It has been a rough pollen season.

I live about 90 miles from you HondaMan and trust me its terrible here too. I have not had a bad allergy season in about 5-6 years but I actually had to quit running outside for the last week; now I am inside on a treadmill like a guinea pig on his wheel -- and I hate that feeling.

It is really bad, now. Trying to play catchup is getting on
my last nerves. I think tshis season is going to be a Klasse
and FK1 seaon for me. They claim anti-static capability,
so i`m going to put them to the test (and get me a good
filtering mask while I`m at it).

Amen to that. It`s been killing me. I think I am dealing a little better with it, though. I have been going to the allergist for about 6 months. I get three shots twice a week and am using Nasonex and AllegraD, which is helping.

Yes, its real bad on LI, too.

But if your allergies are as bad as mine, you dont see the pollen as much because your eyes are so watery and itchy, you`re lucky to even see the car...

Sorry, HondaMan, your avatar distracted me. What were you saying?

I heard that all of the plants and trees are pollenating later than normal this year, so everything is "coming" at once! :lol Bad news for allergy sufferers (achOO!) and for people who like clean rides.

I live in Las Vegas in the winter and it hit us in February. Worst I have ever seen. It must be all over the continent.

I am allergic to almost everything, but it didn`t bother me at all - lucky me!

FWIW, the Bergen Record had a pollen count in their weather section. Under 200 was low; over 200 was high; over 2000 was very high.

The pollen count was just over 1,100 in the area.

I live on Long Island and the pollen is unforgiving. I wash and wax and then go to sleep and wake up to find that my car has gone from white to yellow in just a couple hours. I cant keep up. Just gotta keep cleaning. HAHAHAHA
