1990 Black Audi with 15 years of paint defects (a must see!)

I did this job at the same location as the 280Z. I did this one first because I wanted a cherry as the second job .

The owner bought this car real cheap to I guess, toy around in throughout the winter. He told me via email it was in pretty rough shape, but I did not expect this!

I did a really bad Maxima many months back and I thought I wouldn`t get another one that bad. I thought wrong! This car was filled with deep swirls, scratches, scuffs, oxidations, chips, pits, YOU NAME IT!

Here`s a shot of the car when I got there. Not bad right?

Upon further inspection, this is what I had to deal with:

My final processes to correct it all were:

    -QEW
    -APC to presoak
    -PB Clay
-Menzerna PowerGloss via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Menzerna IP via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Menzerna PO106 via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200 rpm
    -Poorboy`s EX to top

    -APC 10:1 to clean rims/tires/wells
    -BnB to dress tires/wells

    -GR-40 to treat plastic trim
-Mothers Metal Polish and #0000 Steel Wool for all metal trim

    All Fixed :

    Before

    After

    Before

    After

I learned that most paint defects can be fixed. The roof was far too gone. I swear this car was washed with a tire brush all it`s life. I was able to correct any feasible damages that did not require a repaint. To correct the pitting, chipping, and etching, a repaint is a must. I was not sure how thin the paint was after 15 years and I wasn`t about to start experimenting.

    Hope you all enjoyed .

I dedicate all my details this weekend to my grandfather, who passed away suddenly on Thursday...Rest in Peace.

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather.

The car came out great. You can`t get those results with a PC huh? Maybe I need to learn to use a rotory. As long as you keep the polisher moving, you will be ok?

Question Re: 1990 Black Audi with 15 years of paint defects (a must see!)

Where do you get #0000 steel wool? Does it really clean up metal? do you use the metal polish first or after?

#0000 steel wool can be bought online at PAC or in local stores in the paint sections. (0000 is the most fine. Don`t try 000 or less, as the fewer the 0`s the more course they get. :bigscream )

PO106 = CermiClear Finial Polish type product. ?

I need to get some Menzerna Power gloss.. Is the LC polishing pad the yellow or white pad. ?
