I don`t have an extractor and don`t want to get one just to use once. My carpet is dark with a few small stains. what do I use to clean it with? Only high power vacuum I really have access to is the ones at the car washes...thanks!

some all purpose cleaner or spot remover should work with a scrub brush and then vacuum it up
I think that Adam`s carpet cleaner can be wiped up just using a towel, you may want to look into that option.

You are going to need something to suck up the water with, but you can use the vacs at the self-wash if needed. I would either do this at home, put a clean mat down, drive to the wash and use the vac, then drive home again (with the clean mat in place) and let it air dry
or
Just do it at the wash and drive home to let it dry.
spot shot at local stores. spray then blot . Very easy ..

Blue Coral Dri-Clean or Prestone Interior Cleaner. Don`t need an extractor to use these. Just vaccum up the residue per the instructions on the label.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.
I second the Adam`s C&U cleaner. After seeing the video I was hooked.
