SSR1/cutting pad vs. SSR2.5/polishing pad

I have been trying to work through this conundrum for a while now and can`t quite seem to figure it out. Assuming all work is done via PC, what would the difference between these two combos really be? If you`re supposed to start with the least aggressive combo, would you go SSR1/polishing pad then SSR1/cutting pad (if swirls persisted after the first round), or would you go SSR2.5/polishing pad after the SSR1/polishing pad if there were still swirls? :think: :work:



Do you get more cutting action from the pad or the polish?

Usually, you go up the products scale first before using a more aggressive pad. So use SSR2.5 with your polish pad first. If it still doesn`t work, then go to SSR2.5 with the cutting pad.



Also, pads of certain aggressiveness works with certain product aggressiveness.

I would use SSR2.5 with a medium cut or light cut pad. SSR1 on the other had I`d use with the light cut or polish pad depending if I was cleaning (polish pad) or finishing (light cut) the surface.

SSR1 on a cutting pad will cause issues when your trying to get a marring/haze free finish. With the pad being so aggressive as compared to the polish, the pad itself will be doing most of the polishing and because of its aggressiveness, it may leave a finish that still needs another polishing step to remove defects.

I guess from the responses above if you use a cutting pad, you will need to use a polishing pad afterwards.

For the most part yes. Cutting pads tend to haze the clearcoat when you polish with them. You have to follow up with a light polish on a polishing pad to clean this haze up.

Personally, i would go with the 2.5 and polishing before anything with the cutting pad.....
