I`d like to hear what products others have used successfully with the Porter Cable - I`m most interested in black/dark colored cars. Specifically, what product/pad combinations have you found that work quickly to remove swirrels and buffer marks while leaving the finish ready for a LSP? I`m planning to try OPP but am not sure this is the most aggressive "final polish" that can be used, and some have claimed it needs to be worked longer than other products. What about Menzerna IP, OPC, SSR 2.5, #82, #83, Pro`s Duz-All, etc. ?

Menzerna PG or IP followed with PO106FF. I`ve got a black Lexus GX470 that I did only 106FF followed with FMJ.... I`ve been lazy w/ putting up those pics. :)

here`s what Menzerna can do... www.attn-to-details.com/vehicles I haven`t finished the layout for my gallery... nor descriptions. but have a look. Most combos were IP and FP2 or PO106FF.

OK I did upload the GX470 now...

IP is probably the strongest polish I`ve tried to has no left visible marring on black, but you have to work in it quite well and cannot use too coarse a pad. Haven`t left an entire car like that however and have always finished with FPII or more recently, PO85RD. So I don`t know how it would turn out.

From what I have heard, PO106FF finishes extremely well. I`d probably go with that judging by PO85RD.

you simply cannot beat menzerna`s polishes. i was skeptical... until i tried the products myself... the stuff is magic.

I like PO85RD! Use the right pad and that should cure your problems. If you need someting more agressive you may have to go to 3M products. I would take it to a professional if it needed more than the above.

Though I don`t have a black car, I do have a dark metallic blue. Opt Car Polish finishes well enough for me to go directly to LSP. I will be buying P085RD come christmas time though.

Thanks for the responses. Actually, I am a long time detailing hobbiest (family, friends, and neighbors type deal) and recently converted to a full-time professional. I usually use a rotary with a strong polish (recently OPP) and on black cars usually follow with Menzerna Final Polish II with the PC to remove any chance of leaving buffer marks where I cut in on the edges. However, this takes time and in a professional shop, economy is important. I hope to find a "favorite" product that works a little faster than FP II while achieving comparable/acceptable results.

Any body else have any favorites for this "economy-type" application?

Thanks again.

I`d have to say Poorboy`s SSR2.5. If you use it with a polishing or light cutting pad, you can remove some pretty bad swirls, and if you work it in long enough, there is zero hazing left behind. Following SSR2.5, Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover is pretty similar, but not quite as abrasive. I`ve removed some very bad oxidation and swirling with the Wolfgang TSR, and the finish left behind is awesome.
