Is The Etching From Acid Rain or Hard Water?

Is there a visual difference in the blemishes left behind by these two enemies of paint? I`ve seen hard water etching of the clear. I did it on purpose to an older car. :chuckle: How would I recognize etching from acid rain? IOW, how do you know whether etching is from acid rain or a sprinkler if you aren`t VERY familiar with the history of the car.



Is there any benefit to knowing exactly how etching occurred? Thanks!
