I picked up a grout sponge at Home Depot to try for washing cars. This type of sponge is noticably softer than a lot of car wash sponges with the pores being of a decent size. It holds a ton of soap and water and literally glides over the paint. It also rinses clean easily. The thing that I liked was how easy it was to keep a hold on. i`ve found that sheepskin mitts seem to loose their water and soap pretty fast and are somewhat hard to hold on to(tend to want to slip out of my hand). I didn`t notice any visible marring. Anyone else use one?

Can you give us the name of the product? Seems like a good idea to switch to these. Are they cheaper?

I like em myself. I`d say that they rival lambs wool wash mits but they last a lot longer. I guess I let these forums psych me out from using them along with I don`t do much washing any longer thanks to QEW. Well, when I wash now, I`m back to my grout sponge. They can usually be had for less than $2 too. If no one can provide a manufacturer I`ll go over to Home Depot and pick up another and post back.

Hey Chris, can you bring one for me to look at on the 8th?

I`m not going to be able to make the 8th. I`m hoping for the 15th to materialize.

did yours come in a pack of 2?

item number 117177 on homedepot`s website (type it in the search, direct linking doesn`t seem to work) is one of their grout sponges. 2 for $5.

theres also a kind of all purpose sponge item # 117178 that might be worth a shot.

imna check them out myself when i get a chance.

Nope, it was a single. It looks more like #117177.

The ones I use are made by QEP. You can get them in the tile and grout section of Home Depot. They come in a single pack.

www.qep.com

click grouting and clean up, then sponges. It`s number 70005.

the two packs are in the cleaning section-Quickie Professional hydrophillic sponge- seems exactly like the QEP sponge and are for grouting as well-the pores are larger than most carwash sponges.

Wannabody, you might want to test the QEP sponge side by side with the Spontex. While the Spontex sponges are soft, in my opinion, the QEP ones are even softer. It has been over a year though so maybe I should do another test myself. Just food for thought.

in a side by side comparison the QEP single sponge was slighty softer but the Quickie sponge seemed to have slightly larger pores- I doubt that it would make much difference once the sponge is soaked with carwash

My apologies wannafbody. I didn`t know you already did a test.
